Full schedule is out now. As for home games, LOTS of Saturday games (16). Other wise pretty even split between the rest of the days. 5-7 home games each month except for September (only 2 entire games that month) and March which is road heavy.

And the draft ends without any other Spirit players being drafted.

I would expect Smith, Mancini, Oke, McNamara, and maybe Mangone to get a free-agent invite to a NHL camp.

From the Chicago board, this quote was from an article that talked about Misiak:

“Misiak did jump the Atlantic to spend this past spring with Youngstown of the USHL, but it hasn’t yet been determined where he’ll play next season. Doneghey said several Canadian junior teams are trying to acquire his rights.”

That sounds like we don’t have his rights anymore and we’ll be making a pick later this week.

Could be wrong so don’t quote me on this however I believe that if an import doesn’t sign with a team for a full year after being drafted he can re enter the draft pool.

I remember being scared that Martin Chromiak wasn’t going to be coming here but he signed towards the end of the year his first season in kingston

Saginaw was allowed to make 2 picks last year despite keeping Sapovaliv and Mintyukov because both of those players were NHL top prospects. I believe usually this rule applies only to first-rounders, but since the NHL draft took place after the import draft last year, they declared some players as top prospects and allowed teams to move them to a special import list. However, when both Sapovaliv and Mintyukov were returned by their respective NHL teams, I think Saginaw had to drop both Petr Hauser and Misiak.

I heard Erie will take Misiak with their first overall pick.

That stinks, would have been a nice player to just have appear on the roster. Take it for what it's worth but there was some scuttlebutt last season that if Mintyukov stayed up with the Ducks for a while that the Spirit could have signed Hauser or Misiak and traded them knowing that Mintyukov was going to be returned. I don't know how true this is, how long Pavel had to stay up or if it was even legal but obviously Pavel was returned at the same time as all of the other picks so it was a moot point.

We pick #40 this year...unless we've got an agent out there doing the old "this player won't report" game, I think we draft someone, don't sign them and end up trading for another team's import player.

This draft is not really a draft. I’m sure Drinkell is working/has worked on getting a quality import over here for. Considering how weak the past import draft was, I’d hope we are going to try and go the trade route. Couple Czech players that were recently drafted that might be worth a shot. Get them to play with Sapovaliv. Idk.

The only trade target that might be available that I’d want would be Vilmanis from Sarnia. I guess if Mesar is sent back to Kitchener, that’s be worth it.

Imports that are NHL signed or 1st picks do not disqualify a team from picks for the import draft. Potential OA imports do not count either.

That is correct but neither Hauser nor Misiak were first-round picks or signed. So when Sapovaliv and Mintyukov returned, they both had to be moved to the regular list, meaning the team had to make room for them by dropping Misiak and Hauser.

I assume we will take someone signed with Goldstar. Saginaw has a great relationship with them it seems. Pretty sure Solovyov, Mintyukov, Sapovaliv all were gold star clients when we drafted them. Hauser as well. Parekh just signed with them after the season too.

If they do go that route, they’re some guys that look interesting.

Agree...drafting at #40 you're unlikely to get a gamechanger but Zhugin as an 18yo was more productive than Theo Hill last year as an OA so I think he'll definitely be a nice addition to the team. Not trying to take anything away from Hill, just comparing left wingers and age.

Saginaw selects Valentin Zhugin. Guelph had released him earlier on so was eligible to be selected. I like the pick. Experienced, decent depth forward for free.
*Checks agency* Goldstar. Called it

Sounds like he's also a stud in shootouts from the comments I'm reading...very nice asset to pick up by DD

Also should note per Seattle times, Ron Francis said, “he’s planning negotiations on a rule exception to enable Wright to play in the AHL if he fails to stick with the team following a maximum nine-game trial this fall”. 7/2/23

So they are aware, and it’s confirmed that Wright is only eligible for NHL/OHL this year. They would have to be granted an exception for Wright to head to the AHL.

Also clarifies, Wright can again play 9 games with Seattle Kraken.

I’d expect him to do the same and healthy scratch a bit, but the Kraken’s 9th game is October 28th.

If there’s no posting on the rule, and Wright gets stuck in OHL/NHL, we should know by Halloween.

I think there should be an exception for all of the exceptional status players...if you play 4 years in the OHL you should be eligible to play in the AHL. Playing in the OHL will do him zero good from a development standpoint and quite honestly, I don't want to see Windsor have the opportunity to recoup assets that should be down the drain when they rented Wright last year.

I swore this was already the case. I thought Day left the OHL after 4 years to the AHL. Maybe its a formal waiver they have to aquire but I believe thats how the CHL-NHL agreement is worded

NVM Day played 5 years in the O. Maybe it was someone else but I thought the wording was 4 years in the CHL before AHL eligibility. Maybe the lost covid year doesnt count as a year of service. Who knows
