I think realistically they'll need to do a 50% retention on him. That would make him a viable option for a lot more teams. That's far from the best we can do for Olofsson. 28 goal scorers have definite value.

Yea, but if they have the cap space doing the retention could really open up a lot more options and perhaps a much better return. Not like they won't have the cap space to retain for a single season, just a matter of whether Pegula will be willing to spend the extra money. That was mostly my point, I just didn't convey it very well.I think we get a 3rd with no retention. That seems to be the market-ish rate for 1 year to UFA middle six players that are one dimensional-ish.
Reunited with Bjork!Olofsson actually makes perfect sense for Chicago.

Chicago and San Jose were the two teams that keep coming to mind as possible landing spots for Vic - the team gets some goals to keep things from being too terrible but they also don't get too good to outpace their rebuild. Murphy could be a guy to go after and make it into a hockey deal. Maybe someone like Matt Benning too - though Murphy seems more apt as a Power-partner at first blush, though Benning has some good defensive measures on both the Preds and Sharks. Benning wouldn't be my first choice but he's a choice.
I've been saying right along that Vic's use is to provide some scoring for rebuilding/tanking teams. I expect him to be in Chicago next year honestly. I don't expect it to be more than a 3rd at the very best.
RBA requires all of his forwards buy in to playing a 200' game. He'd never go for him, nor would their analytics department think he was a good fit. It's either a team that ignores those things (like say, the Rangers who some criticize for Drury's dismissing data) or a team where it doesn't matter (Chicago, maybe Anaheim, San Jose, Arizona).
No contending/capped out team is taking on Olofsson, at least not at the start of the season, even with retention.
Especially when the scoring depth forward UFA market is actually decent.
Olofsson isn't going to put up those goal totals inside a more disciplined system. And why give up anything for a guy when you can at least attempt to fill that scoring role internally OR just sign someone on a one year deal.
The target team for VO is probably a bad team who can buy low and sell high. So Chicago, Arizona, maybe San Jose even. If Montreal moves Josh Anderson for a haul he could make sense there as a fill on the power play.
StopThis is make or break for Krebs. Simply no room.

That's 10 top 9 forwards and not even listing Mitts. Plus hungry guys like Rousek. By 2024-2025 every one is a full time NHLer. This team needs to just add a face off specialist/top PKer and 2 competent bruisers for the 4th line and this team will be a juggernaut. We will roll out 3 lines filled with an embarrassment of top prospects/1st round picks.
What does it take to get Tuch's brother from Montreal ?, askin for a friend...
Maybe as a bottom pairing, not in the role we are looking for first and foremost. What about Justin Holl? Could he be an underrated player with good analytics?
Tuch is likely back for next year, he was named an alternate captain (with Clarence native and Devils draft pick Case McCarthy named captain, thanks to the extra Covid year of eligibility). Of course things can change, but I'd have to think he wouldn't have been given a letter if they thought he was leaving.See if he'll wait until next summer to sign? If he goes back to BU for one more year, he'd be an August 15th defected free agent.
The one dimensional guys that are weak 5v5, lazy defensively, and offer no physicality just aren't valued that much if you're not potting 40+ every year. Mike Hoffman was a similar type of player and he had to sign a PTO & hasn't had any takers at the last 2 deadlines. That's far from the best we can do for Olofsson. 28 goal scorers have definite value.
I've watched him a lot and stay away. Super slow & has gotten killed in the playoffs. Struggles to make breakout passes under pressure. Doesn't really fit with the fast team Adams is trying to build. I'd rather have Stillman in over him. What about Justin Holl? Could he be an underrated player with good analytics?

I don't think GMs really care about some story that happened 5 years ago. Guys with much more baggage have still been highly sought after. He just isn't good. Neither is Olofsson.Hoffman has other baggage that Olofsson doesn't have. From what I can tell his girlfriend gets along with all the other player wives.
Well, he seems average, but even this is better than Joki and Boosh charts, especially since he often played minutes of the second pair. It is unlikely that all the troubles of Toronto because of him. Even though I don't know much about him, that's why I'm asking.

Yeah, Holl is Bryson-esque in the sense that his underlying numbers aren’t bad, but doesn’t pass the eye test at all.I think holl would struggle mightily in our system.
I don't really invest a ton in cards for 2nd / 3rd pairing defenseman in good systems or ones who are in systems that get shelled.Well, he seems average, but even this is better than Joki and Boosh charts, especially since he often played minutes of the second pair.
