Not to derail the defenseman thread I'll just say this:

His type are hard to find and generally coveted by contenders. If we can get a decent one at a decent price, we should.
Yeah I agree but not at 4M, I’d be way more comfortable signing a guy like Hathaway/Donato/motte to a cheaper deal.

But yeah D wise. I’d be all over Matt Roy. Other guys I would be interested in would be tanev/fabbro.

Ufa wise I’d only really want one of Severson/Mayfield/Clifford depending on the cost

Zero interest in dumba

The ole 6x3.6. Drury is weird. Another issue is that he's 30yr old already so by the time 4M might not be a horrible number, he'll be a traffic cone.

We haven't seen Adams sign a ton of FAs but none have been wear-out-your-welcome contracts. Maybe that will change as we transition to a playoff team.

This isn't the Dman thread so I can continue my explanation!!!

I agree I'd rather one of the 3 you mentioned at a cheaper deal.....but it takes two to tango and they might not want to come here. So then throw a mid round pick at a guy who fits, if slightly overpaid. We could afford it.

3,6M maybe not such a big cost to pay for a guy who helps on PK, scores 30 points and plays a physical game. But I don't like that Goodrow's FO dropped to 45% this season, and in season 21-22 it was almost 50%.

Why would we want to pay a 4th liner almost 4M for 4 more years?? To do the rangers a favour ?
He has played up and down the lineup with the Rangers. He is not merely a fourth line guy.

How are we not going to have to overpay to get an annoying physical forechecker and PKer??? Goodrow is exactly the kind of guy this team needs!

I think we need that type of player as well, but I don’t think goodrow would be a good get just based on his contract and his age etc.

The guy that's most likely to move would be Goodrow. His cap hit isn't terrible and he hasn't really fit well in with the Rangers. He'll, I'd give the Rangers a mid round pick for Goodrow.
I think he's least likely to move quite frankly. Dolan specifically wanted them to become harder to play against. That's why they added Goodrow--and traded away Buchnevich to do it. I can't imagine them doing a 180 just two seasons later.

I think they move one or more of Lindgren, Miller, Kakko, or Lafreniere. Whether that's a wisest course is a different question, but it's what I think is likely.

This is make or break for Krebs. Simply no room.

Tage
Tuch
Skinner
Cozens
Quinn
Peterka
Savoie
Kulich
Ostlund
Rosen

That's 10 top 9 forwards and not even listing Mitts. Plus hungry guys like Rousek. By 2024-2025 every one is a full time NHLer. This team needs to just add a face off specialist/top PKer and 2 competent bruisers for the 4th line and this team will be a juggernaut. We will roll out 3 lines filled with an embarrassment of top prospects/1st round picks.

Peyton Krebs, age 22 - threatening to block the prospects.
Established roster players get better returns in trade than prospects. If on-ice performance is roughly equal, you move the established player because you're more likely to get a piece that improves the team.

This year is make or break for Krebs, Mitts, Greenway, maybe Peterka -- as Sabres -- because they'll return the pieces we need to become a true long-term contender.

Why does Krebs need to be in the top 9? He really started to get it going as the 4C, and still has room to improve in that role. He was forechecking, driving possession, throwing hits, playing solid defensively most of the time, and generally doing all of the things you like to see from your 4th line. Add in his high skill level, room to get stronger (he's still only 22) and high motor and you have a 4th line player who can easily slide up the line-up in the event of injury.

Also, counting on all of Savoie, Kulich, Ostlund and Rosen to be full time in the NHL after another season is optimistic considering none of them have played a single NHL game yet, and Ostlund hasn't even played a game North America yet.

If we trade Olofsson and Okposo retires I'd be ok with Silfverberg as insurance. Should have negative value right now but he'd be good depth and a veteran. If Ducks have interest in Olofsson Silfverberg might improve the return we get to a 2nd round pick or something.

If Kulich and Savoie makes the team we can just waive him.

Shoulda got one game in
Adams, running out of keybank center, tie untied, hair disheveled.

"PROSPECTS. THE PROSPECTS ARE BLOCKING THE PROSPECTS. WHAT HAVE I DONE?"

And collapses in a heap, weeping uncontrollably.

Wonder if we could deal VO and Joker to Chicago for one of their four 2nd rounders. Then we would have the ammo to maybe move up into the 2nd half of the 1st to grab Simashev/Willander.

Chicago literally has nothing on the roster and they need to bring in some players to surround Bedard with. Joker is young and can play third pair behind Jones and Murphy. VO can work the side opposite of Bedard on the PP.

I doubt the blackhawks front office will be too keen on Jokiharju. There was a reason they traded him in the first place. As for Olofsson....probably depends? The whole point of him would be to buy low, juice his stats, and flip him at the deadline for more than you paid.

I don't know enough about their prospect pool to know if VO fits in or not. Blackhawks fans have been pretty meh when I've had them as a destination for VO on Capfriendly.

Olofsson actually makes perfect sense for Chicago.

Give Bedard someone who can finish on the PP so his production gets a bump

Trade him at the deadline with retention for an asset

He’s in no danger of helping you actually win games so you’ll get another high pick

I don’t know if there is a better player in the world who fits every goal they have next season than Victor Olofsson

Olofsson for free or with an asset makes sense for them, but paying for him doesn't.

They can likely grab players with assets attached from cap strapped teams. Someone like Bailey for example. There would also be the risk of Olofsson getting injured and them not being able to recoup a pick at the TDL. That's not a risk a rebuilding team should be making.
