Rumor: Sabres finalizing another trade (not Byram)

Not high, I don’t think. I don’t think he’s a great fit for the Sabres. I also don’t think Buffalo is on his list.

Fair on fit. His list, that we know of, is pretty irrelevant at this point.

None of the teams that he wants have what it takes anymore. Minnesota could involve a third team and I'm still not sure they'd be able to get it done.

We have 4 goalies right now. 3 goalies did well in the nhl last season. Helle turns into a pumpkin during the playoffs. I don't really se how it's an improvement considering his massive cap hit.
We can trade UPL and have three super cheap goalies next season.

We are doing a retool anyway and getting even younger. We might miss the playoffs 26/27 but 27/28 is looking really promising.
So, one postseason appearance in fifteen years, most of your top players in their primes/on good contracts, more assets than you know what to do with, and now is the time to pull back and wait for a better future?

Good luck with that strategy.

Chicago didn't trade their 4th overall to Toronto for Knies. Buy they did trade it and more for Byram

Not sure how I connect the two. That to me means Knies is worth more, not the same or less.

A power forward on a value contract and trending well is worth more than the 4th OA pick i my books.

Byram does not have Knies value. Byram is not some top pairing stud with no flaws. It's the 2nd time he is moved now. He's good but he's not as good as what the Sabres were pumping.

Hawks made that move because it's not easy to add a PP offensive type. Byram is the best they could get and it could end up well. He can still improve and become a top pairing quality in the coming years.

Remember, Matheson put up points on D as well. Byram is not any better than him (today).

I hope Buffalo makes their picks at 4 and 20. They'd need a serious regression and maybe some lottery luck to pick as high as 4 again. 20 is a wild card pick. I'd bet they won't be in that range again for a bit.

I think this isn't enough from the Sabres or is too much from the Blues. You can remove the 29th OA and I still instantly do it from the Sabres perspective.

Yeah, I hadn't carefully weighed the values on both sides, just an instant ideation type of thing.

But I do think there might be something interesting from both sides, with the core of the deal being something like:

Sabres:
- Thomas : definitely something they can use, to replace Tuch's production, and allows TNT to go to the wing. Instantly 1C on the team
- Parayko : obviously something they have wanted for a while, even more of a need now that Kesselring and Byram were moved.

Blues:
- McLeod : really the long term solution to 3C, temporarily replaces Thomas
- Mrtka : also obviously something they have wanted for a while, potentially solidifies the right side for the long run
- 4 OA : rumoured to be very high on Carels or Bjorck, definitely one of them would be available at that position. If Bjorck, would eventually slide into the 1C spot, possibly starting next year as a 3C

Both sides can add other pieces to balance out the values.

Or the leafs were asking for a lot more.
I wouldn't blame them for doing that in this market, but I think asking for "a lot more" than a top 5 draft pick for a guy that's not even a top 10-15 winger in the NHL is kind of foolish when you could do really well in a trade for him without that

Why would you want to be in that range again? Means you are bad lol. That rookie isn't helping this year and we could miss the playoffs if we don't go out and get two quality players.
