When was the last time a top 2 goalie in the entire sport was available?
Norris + UPL + 45th + 4th OR Helenius OR "Östlund + 20th"
is a fair package that simultaneously ensures / improves your odds at the following:
a) you have the best goalie tandem in the Atlantic next year,
b) Florida doesn't have the best goalie tandem in the Atlantic next year,
c) you don't have to gamble on whether Norris stays healthy,
d) you open up enough cap space to keep Tuch, if necessary, and
e) you massively improve your goaltending without subtracting anyone from your actual core,
f) you get to retain at least one top C prospect no matter what for the future, and
g) you don't waste a year of Tage and Dahlin's primes by ending up with the 24-25 version of UPL.
I don't need to explain the deal from the Jets' perspective in too much detail; it's a re-tooling move, we are significantly worse for it next year, and we take on a f***ton of risk with Norris and UPL - one has a concerning injury history, and the other hasn't proven himself to be a reliable starter yet. We give up by far the best piece in the deal, and are compensated accordingly.
(If it's McLeod instead of Norris, remove pick #45 - that, however, probably doesn't leave enough cap space for Tuch, so that's why I'd stick to Norris in a deal. Worse for the Jets, but more sensible overall.)
