Rumor: Sabres finalizing another trade (not Byram)

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.
While I'd understand not giving up for Larkin, do you think either would be available for Roberts (who may not be on the block) or Robertson (if he'd re-sign, of course).
I think anything is possible, just not probable.

I’m looking at it from organizational need, center is not a need. Would I like a center with over 50% face offs, something the Sabres lack outside of the deadline acquired Carrick? Absolutely. Do I think Jarmo is willing to give up what the Blues want for Roberts given we know Jarmo walked away at the deadline due to price? No, I do not believe that. The Roberts ship has sailed, as I said.

Byram just got the 4th so Hellybuck can’t

Mmmmmmm not so sure about that

Teams are overpaying with picks . If it was Byram for Hellybuck you say sure
No way would Buffalo trade a defenseman like Byram for a goalie. Especially a 33 year old goalie. There's no way they trade the 4th ov pick for him lol. Not unless its part of a bigger trade.

That’s speculative. I can just as easily say the Sabres were speaking to Toronto about Knies because it was reported they had talks around the deadline about him. Not a peep now.

I don’t see a deal with the Blues, the Sabres are hosting the draft, I believe they are picking at 4 unless the off chance they can slide up to 2.

As a side note, it’s also been reported here locally that Forton, our head of scouting and draft analysis for the Sabres, is key on a player that should be there around 20, so as of now, based on known reports, I see the Sabres picking at 4 and 20.

All of these fan trade talks are speculative. It should go with the territory

Absolutely not. When has a goalie returned anything of that value?
Scheneider at 26 I think --got 9th OA

Byram is 25 at start of season, helly is mid 30s.
This is funny (Google AI said I was right...)

I can't remember who reported it but it might have been Friedman. Not sure.

My question to Google AI:
* Sabres were trying to get both Parayko and Thomas?

Google AI answer:
You are absolutely right, the Buffalo Sabres engaged in deep discussions with the St. Louis Blues attempting to acquire both players during the trade period. [1, 2]
The plan was a highly aggressive move to bolster their roster, but it Ultimately fell through for different reasons for each player.

  • Robert Thomas: The Sabres and Blues went the distance in trade talks surrounding the star center, but the deal ultimately fell apart. It was widely reported that the Sabres were unwilling to part with the massive package of assets required to pry Thomas away. Later, Robert Thomas confirmed he was never formally asked to waive his no-trade clause.
  • Colton Parayko: After the Thomas talks stalled, the two teams hammered out a reported deal in principle. The framework would have sent the veteran defenseman to Buffalo in exchange for prospect Radim Mrtka and a first-round pick. However, Colton Parayko has a full no-trade clause and officially declined to waive it, effectively vetoing the trade
They talked about acquiring Thomas but yhst ship has sailed

Not a peep now because the Parayko trade was leaked! Blues and Sabres (if true) are hush hush about it now. Whoever leaked that is trash!

I don't know. Just my gut feel. Sabres are big fish hunting and I really do think they are trying to convince both Parayko and Thomas to join them. Paryako did say it was more about being asked last min to waive... correct?
There was not a oarayko trade. It was about Thomas. If it involved byran then they get parayko with retention

They shouldnt be playing Crevier in the top 4 if they want to be competing for a cup lol.

They need to replace Byram minutes.

Dahlin - Samuelsson
Power - ??

Metsa and Timmins?

Big hole to fill.

You haven't been paying attention to Crevier this season then. He's been very strong defensively to end Chicago's season and on a massive upwards trajectory.

Crevier still needs to refine his decision-making in the defensive zone, but as a right-handed defenseman standing at 6'8 with strong overall skating abilities he completely fits the Sabres' wants on defense.

I actually think Crevier wouldn't be the worst option to round-out Buffalo's top-4 with Owen Power next season.

He's a bit unproven, but has the potential to be a good defensive option on a second pairing down the line,

Needless to say, I've really liked Buffalo's move from Byram.

Byram is a good defenseman, but they've gotten great value back in return and look poised to make additional moves to solidify their team for years to come.

Buffalo successfully moved on from Peterka last season and secured a long-term top-6 power winger in Doan as a result, and I think they kind of low-key did the same by including Crevier in this deal on defense.

All told, I think the Atlantic will definitely be the "division of death" again next season with Florida coming back, Toronto looking like they will be better, Buffalo restructuring their team, and other teams like the Canadiens and others likely adding to their rosters too.

Crevier played with Vlasic a lot as a Towering D-unit that has great reach... but neither are very physical. Crevier can continue that playing with Power going back to LD

Lots of options for Buffalo now. Sign Tuch, or a sign and trade. Use the 4th to draft BPA, or trade it for an impact player now. Use 20th, or trade it in a package. Trade Ostlund or Helenius, or keep them.

Jarmo has created flexibility
And I am wondering if that’s the other trade that was reported being worked on.

It's been speculated to be Tuchs rights by the Buffalo beat writer/source. But it's been reportedly close since late last night. So hopefully some sort of resolution today. Apparently Toronto is also sitting on a couple deals (possible click bait). Should be interest times leading up to draft.

There is 0 chance Jarmo is giving 4 over all for a netminder. The Sabres have 4 goalies, 3 of which are definitely NHL caliber. Do they need an upgrade in net? Not at 4 over all and this is reflected in the multiple reports that they’ve interest in Bob, showing they aren’t going to spend that draft capitol on a goalie.

Yea, the 4 over all isn’t in the conversation for Hellebuyck, no matter how much Jets fans wish for it. It’s just not reality.

It is if #8 overall is coming back.

I'd do something like #4, UPL, and Mcleod for Helly and #8 overall.

IDK if we can use Byram as a gauge. Chicago clearly overpaid.

That sad, you're not wrong (Knies is worth more either way)
They did but seems to be a sellers market in general. I don't want him dealt even a little bit but can't help but be curious as to his worth is in this climate (3/4 1sts value around the deadline depending how much you Like Zhar/Hage/Pickford/Fowler and obviously the actual 2 1sts).
