Ryane Clowe

Good lord.

You honestly think any of them can play 3rd line C?

Oh wait, you're going with Miller there, right? Jesus.

Wait till the last few games of the season and playoffs. Miller shouldn't be sniffing those minutes in those games. Him at 3rd line center is a recipe for disaster.

Boyle can't play third line center either...he can play a good 4th line center though

Prust being compared to Clowe

boyle be replaced as a 3c by powe, asham and even haley whos not even on the team right now...

love coming on here!!good comic relief for the day..

Call me completely crazy but the aspect of playing with Nash, Stepan, Gaborik, Richards, Callahan, Hagelin, and Zucc has me kind of excited.

With him planted in front of the net and some creativeness around him, it puts a at least temporary smile on my face.

He slumped in the beginning of the season and then wasn't playing with any of SJ's top players recently.

Sometimes this whimsical change of scenery thing works....hopefully this is one of them.

This is a HUGE problem with Clowe. If the Rangers could somehow pry him off of the boards and plant him in front of the net, you could have something here. Good luck with that though, San Jose has been begging Clowe to get in the slot and plant but he just doesn't stick with it.

If Clowe resigns for reasonable $'s this is a solid deal. Something like 3yr/9m then this is a decent deal and I can possibly stomach losing 2 2nd's and a 3rd. Unfortunately he won't sign that cheap. If we don't resign him, a 2nd, 3rd, and 5th for 13 games and maybe a round in the playoffs sucks. There is no doubt though that he brings an element this team sorely needs.

I'd be laughing if I wasn't ramming my head into the keyboard.

Actually I'm still laughing too.

You hit it right on the head here. There is no chance Clowe signs for that low. The reason we dealt him to you guys is because he wants nothing less than a 5-6yr deal at around 5-6 per. San Jose can't afford that, and wouldn't pay it even if they could. Unless you guys pay him that, i'm sure somebody else will. This guy was known as "The Beast" in San Jose, and brings that certain element wherever he goes. His scoring is streaky though. Honestly you guys are looking at a rental unless you pay the man. He's looking for a contract to finish out his career with.

i don't know anything about clowe. and all i'm seeing is videos of him fighting. i assume there's more to him, but the rangers don't need a goon. they need someone to actually step in when an opponent steps over the line. like when someone runs henrik or starts taking pokes at gabby or boards mcdonagh. staged fights are useless. again, i appreciate that clowe is probably that guy, but i'd love to see some video of that. assuming he is that guy, with mcilrath, we'll finally have a team that doesn't get eff'd-with. i hope.

Shark's fan here. I'm on my phone so I don't have time to write an appropriate response but he is 100% that guy you want. The running joke was that he was 'Papa bear' and Logan was one of his cubs. He was briefly suspended this season for a late line change he made at the end of a shift to fight someone who injured a shark on a dangerous play. This guy protects his teammates and is honestly one of the better fighters in the league. He has great hands, a good pass and his shot is decent. This season he's been undisciplined and his shoulder was hurt. If it heals you have the West Coast equivalent of Lucic.

I've heard this a few times which makes me smile. Milan is my favorite hockey player. Hoping to see Clowe ram the spine back into this team.

cheers. good stuff. and i assumed he was that guy. but just want to hear about/see it some.

with the new cba and salary cap this isn't happening. and i'm sure clowe's not expecting it. he'd have to be punch-drunk to think he's getting that kind of money/duration. that's superstar money these days.

The wheels of Mike Rupp combined with the hands of Brian Boyle.

Yet another old, broke-down, on the way out player for Slats' collection.

Once players in the mold of Clowe start declining due to injuries, it's a rapid downward spiral. He'll be out of the NHL in two years.

I understand its: Clowe > Prust, but in this circumstance where we let Prust walk for free and have to give up assets to acquire Clowe its just not. Not signing Prust or at least trading him and getting something in return if not, then giving up a bunch of picks for Clowe seems like horrible management. Sather gonna Sather I guess. He'll probably sign him to 7 years at 4mil each too.

Here's one of him basically willing to start a fight because Burrows touched Couture's face

5-6 mil is 2nd liner UFA money, not superstar money.

well, we can argue semantics. but my point is, i'm sure he's not getting that kind of money. maybe pre-2004. or even, possibly, with the last cba. but that's not going to happen now. i'd say he'll get somewhere bet 3-4mil per year considering age and drop in productivity. he might turn it around, sure. and he might want to go for a one-year-make-good deal and test free agency after 2013-2014. but if he wants a long-term deal, he's going to have to take less than he's making now, all things considered...just my opinion. and i'm sure sather will see it similarly.

that's pretty good. i want more of that. i'm not for the staged fights. but i think it's clear the refs and the 'discipline czar' won't protect players. it's for the rangers themselves to make it...unappetizing...to hurt a ranger. at least slats recognizes that.

They are not even comparable players offensively. Prust is a 4th line 20 or so pt player. Close is a borderline 2nd liner who puts up 55 pts a year.

I didn't. :( I missed the whole build-up. Was playing a roller hockey game.

"We are extremely pleased to be able to acquire Ryane,†stated Sather. “He is a unique combination of size, skill and toughness. His strong leadership and character make him a tremendous addition to our organization on and off the ice.â€

That's one quote I found.

I think he's here to stay. I don't think he chose us over Vancouver just to leave as a UFA either. A deal will be worked out.
