The previous administration did what you're supposed to do.

Get as many high-end potential players as possible and then augment the roster.

The owner didn't like that and freaked out, as he has many times before.

It forgot to get a center though.

Not sold on this only because of what the players say about having that deterrent on their team. I'm thinking about 80's and 90's hockey though maybe not today. I just remember in Ice Guardians Brett Hull saying without the Semenkos and Chase's he and Gretzky wouldn't have been as successful as they were.

Every team had a few goons back then and you'll never hear an NHL star say anything but positive things about their teammates.

It forgot to get a center though.

They didn't forget to get a center. The thought was Chytil would be that center. He started well last season before he got hurt and never looked the same.

Though I do think he's a better wing than center.

Chytil is one. They need another.

I don’t think Wilson would of done what he did if Reaves was there. Not because it’s a tough guy but because Reaves has been kicking Wilson’s ass for years now.
And while Reaves isn’t dirty he has no problem being dirty after someone else has
Tom Wilson has a lizard brain. He sees a defenseless player and cannot help himself but to attack

Dolan is a spoiled brat and pos imo yet historically a team with kids has a veteran presence to police them. The kids were left alone which is not what you’re supposed to do.

If you believe guys like Clutterbuck, Martin, and Czikas will play any differently, you're in for quite the surprise.
We're not trying to make their 4th line play differently. The entire Rangers team would shrink when they got their asses handed to them. Now they can start dishing out punishment and some of the skilled players of other teams will have to adjust.

I'm hoping we are done with the days of letting guys freely skate into the zone for a shot on goal.

I was responding to posters who think opponents will change their style because of Reaves. That's nonsense.

Indeed they will not play any differently.

I certainly hope not.

This is why you lean in and aquire the kind of grit that when demonstrated the right way helps build the whole team towards a new level of performance.

I want the Rangers to face the best and baddest that any team can throw at us.

And I want them to be able to respond properly and resolutely.

If they can't, then you know what your dealing with and you proceed accordingly.

If they do, they'll have a shot at the cup.

Couple of posts in a row from me as I’ve been thinking about this while traveling this week. Here’s my theory on how the deal went down:

The teams had a deal in place, value-wise of Howden for Reaves. Both teams were happy with the swap. With Vegas being exempt from the expansion draft the teams made the trade to protect Howden from Seattle (who was rumored to be the guy Francis wanted) while not trading Reaves back to the Rangers who would have been necessary to protect. The difference in picks (LV 4th vs NYR 3rd) was only done as a ‘payment’ for Vegas to protect Howden early. It was also done as a way to have a ‘get out of jail free card’ in case the league looked into it as I believe there was a clear comments from the league that Vegas could not ‘protect’ players for other teams in terms of expansion.

So all in all, the deal was probably Howden for Reaves which was discussed here for months and makes a ton of sense for both teams.

I don't think it has to be a prevention, but now other teams can take the Rangers a little more seriously. Especially now that they can hit back instead of shrinking and then the game is out of hand at 5-1.

Thank you baby Jesus! Now are best players can play there skill games without getting runned 6 times a games..

Okay here goes the second post

I don’t think any player is a true ‘deterrent’ in today’s NHL. Reaves will help keep most players honest but there will always be guys willing to cross the line because they are either wired that way or need to in order to stay in the NHL.

In saying that, the reason I have been so determined in my defense of acquiring Reaves over the last year has been more about instilling a culture of aggression into the young players the Rangers are developing. If this organization is going to be successful long term, they need to be able to set the tone and answer the bell on a nightly basis. Often times this is less physical and more mental and requires actual development in an area where most skilled young players have never had to develop up to this point.

We’ve seen for a couple of seasons that this team has not been able to consistently answer physical play even outside of playoff hockey. We have also seen what physical play can do to teams both inside and outside of playoff hockey. It’s still an important element in today’s NHL.

All of that being said, my expectation for Reaves is to come in and be this teams tougher Matt Martin. Someone who brings energy on a nightly basis, throws clean, yet very effective body checks, and answers the bell when other teams may be close to crossing the line to calm things down for the younger developing players on the team.

He’s not going to be some Robocop bully every night but his presence can be felt by doing the above which is exactly what he has done for Vegas for a few seasons. He’s effective at exactly that role and while it’s not ‘sexy’ in terms of stats, it’s also something I am more than excited to have added to a team like this one that is currently constructed.

This is when a coach can change things up and recognize the situation. Wilson was doing the stuff before that shift, that’s when you counter with a Reaves. Of course we didn’t have anyone in his weight class but at worse, Quinn could have had Smith out there for the PP
Brendan Smith on the power play? You’ve lost the game if Tom Wilson is making you do that

We currently have 3 players named Ryan on the team. Strome, Lindgren and Reaves.
