Does not really matter, the league has looked hypocritical in just about everything they do and they don't care.
I agree but that would be my response if they called it revenge. I would simply ask how they could call it revenge when they acted like nothing significant took place. I would tell them to make up their minds. I think Reeves should bait Wilson in warmups. Do not wait for the puck to drop.

GG shoring up the locker room for a couple of years with Reeves around. Maybe less lovefest between Mika and Kreider after the games ...hockey is war now we have some foot soldiers

I really think that letter probably pissed off the NHL. Not one person within the league's or team's managements that I know of showed any sort for support for it. It's still a rich old boys club, when a member goes rogue it usually does not go well for them.

No doubt it bothered the league. I actually like George but they made a mistake especially given Wilson's history.

Not that I'm advocating this, but they could also trade Reaves at the deadline if they really wanted to. ATM, seems to be more of an asset to NYR than others.

My humble take: If people want to say Reaves can set a tone from the fourth line and in the locker room, can give the star players a perception of protection, give some possible vengeance against a transgression (maybe at some point) and not be as awful as Howden was last year, I can concede that.

but....

Saying that Tom Wilson did what he did to Buch/Panarin because of the Rangers lack of grit and leadership and Wilson will absolutely never do that now that Reaves and co are here just doesn't hold much water with me. I'll say it a different way this time:

The same thing happened to the evidently "lacking in leadership and grit" Bruins a month earlier. The Blues went through the same thing (twice), the Pens went through the same thing (twice)...etc. ALL lacking in leadership and grit???

....or Tom Wilson does what he does to all those teams because that's who Tom Wilson is as a player. Just as Bryan Marchment, just as Steve Downie, just as Matt Cooke, etc, etc were before him.

Reaves was on the Knights when Wilson laid out Marchessault with that big hit in game 1 of SC finals (Vegas won that game). Wilson knew who Reaves was before that game. Didn't stop him. Vegas lost the next four games and the series. Reaves played in three of the games and then not in the last.

Reaves gave Wilson a receipt a year later in the 2nd game between the two teams. Felt really good. Didn't fundamentally change Wilson as a player though.

This will sound far fetched, yet perhaps Reaves was not going to do their bidding unless they extended him?

I just can't find any logic in them doing so the day after being traded for unless he was maybe not going to report.

Sounds like a great team guy.

It does seem very far fetched to think Reaves strong armed Drury after the trade and said he wouldnt stick up for his new teammates unless he gave him an extension...

Right, yet then why?

They would have had all season to extend him at any time.

we gave a bottom6 energy PKer 6 years.

logic does not exist here.

but if anything, it's getting more value out of the trade. It cost a 3rd. 2 years of service is better than 1.

Reaves is listed as 6'2" 225? I saw him walking down the street once, and no.
He is not a small man. Not sure about the height, but he is very thick. His father was a terrific football player.

Reaves is the sort of guy you hate to see suit up on the other team. He is a heavy forechecker, and a handful around the net, as well as one of the best fighters in the league. He will hit, and hurt players, but tends to follow "the code". Can still skate decently for a big man. From what I can understand, he is a decent man. Works with kids, is still close with his family, and gets along with teammates.

Let's face it, he will be playing about 10 minutes /night on your 4th line, and will be there to answer Wilson/Martin/Clutterbuck/Maroon, etc. if they start to get out of hand. He will also lay some very hard, borderline hits. If you are depending on him for offense then i don't know what to tell you. He is there to give your team an edge, especially in the playoffs when the whistles get put away. His teammates will love him.

The only worry is that he was having trouble staying on the ice at the end of last year. No idea if a summer of healing up will take care of that.

I like the trade, but already talking a one year extension is silly. Lets wait and see what impact he has this year before commiting to another year. He does turn 35 this season, I would not talk extension at all right now

At 34, turning 35 at mid-season, I'd have preferred we wait and see what we have first. We're not exactly talking about an age range when many players are known to thrive, let alone enforcers.

But, it is what it is.

This isn’t just about Wilson. The Isles are a heavy team. So are the Bruins. Games against the Devils are going to get more competitive. Then there’s Philly.

A 1-2 year extension would be fine.
