I read a report, it was the Post (Brooks) or a well recognized blogger, not a rumor it's a fact, that McD has no ill effects from that hit. I am sorry I read it earlier this am and can't directly link or quote.

McDonagh on for practice. Told that it wasn't shoulder that took brunt of Ovechkin hit, only his face. #mactrucktough
McDonagh, who apparently suffered no ill effects whatsoever from the thunderous check by Ovechkin with 8:28 remaining in Sunday’s third period, wouldn’t get drawn into a tit-for-tat with No. 8 any more than his coach or his teammates.

Thought he was unreal from the beginning of the second until the end of the game tonight.
He's been really good since game 4 against the Caps.
Not "there" yet, but very good.
This.

Frankly there are only two blemishes on his game tonight, but they were big.
That stupid penalty where the Lightning tied the game.
And in the 3rd period he drifted all the way to Girardi's man (who was covered), hipchecked him, and left his man wide open for a clean look on Hank.
Like him or not..he was one of our BEST players out there. Yes he made a couple mistakes but he was busting his ass and make JUST as many good plays AND scored a goal.
He showed up tonight when it mattered like a captain. He is one of the LAST players that should get blame tonight.
IT starts and finishes with our "top 3" star players...NASH, MSL, and, YANDLE
I always had the feeling that McDonagh was awarded the captaincy because he is a young, homegrown player who is one of the best in the league at his position (or at least he was last year) and not because of his leadership abilities. Honestly, I would have been fine having 3 A's again this year and seeing if a captain emerges naturally.
Lots of good captains in the league, past and present, command the respect of their teammates, and I don't think McDonagh possesses that quality yet. Whatever he said the other night just went in one ear and out the other.
They really messed up not giving it to Stepan, IMO.
