 I don't recall Girardi ever being given a hard time by the media.

But I agree that McDonagh should be put on full blast.

Its funny, we all thought that it was Girardi who was bringing down the pairing´s advanced stats numbers while the reality, for this year, might have been the exact opposite.

I think he will bounce back, but he has been **** compared to last year.

He even looks a little confused in his facial expressions on the ice during close ups. It's so uncharacteristic of the ice water veined future Norris D we saw last year.

Yes, the facial expressions. He looks confused and annoyed. Sometimes I wonder if it was a concussion that messed with him. Or if he is on pain medication.

He was so great. He used to catch breakaways from behind. Now he's a shadow of that player.

concussing zucc is weighing on him

I imagine this is taking "some" toll on him, especially if it is a concussion.

One of the worst games he's ever played last night.

Absolutely, mistake, bad play, mistake.....giveaway....goal. Horrific. Had Hunwick pkayed, we might have won. That says a lot.

The C was not a good idea.

From day 1.......I suggested this, and thought it should've been given to Marty. 20/20 hindsight tells me that decision might have ruined both players seasons. (Marty probably wanted it)

McD was always a good spokesperson prior to captaincy, but his interviews changed drastically when donned. He literally sounded like TORTS, stuff like "what we're trying to do HERE", and "we didn't play well the first 2 periods, but .....WE FOUND A WAY" UGGGH.

During the 2013 lockout, I missed watching him play and skate effortlessly more than anything.

Now I never want to see him again.

He's become this year's Del Zotto.

It's like he's carrying a bag of sand on his back out there.

and yes - the effortless skating and play is what you miss. Wonder what happened to the guy.

McDonagh is way too cute with the puck in dangerous situations. He needs to be more decisive and make quicker decisions with the puck instead of trying to stickhandle around someone. Same could be said for the entire team but it starts with the C.

Giveaway for the go ahead goal? He should have elevated his game after that. I don't like what I'm seeing, Staal and Girardi have outplayed him this postseason and its not close.

He has 0 points this series. Well, he does have one assist depending on how you want to view the Burakovsky goal.

Wake the **** up, captain.

I'm very interested to see if he's been playing hurt or not this season. His stride just doesn't look like it had before - not just last year, but every single year up until now. I truly think that's at the root of all of his problems this year.

I'm under the belief that the injury last year and early this season did a significant number on him. Coupled with the added pressure of being the captain and you have the recipe for a "step back" kind of year.

I think it's also worth mentioning that some of our defenseman play their best hockey when paired with Girardi.

I don't believe that's just a coincidence.

I have no doubt that McDonagh has been hurt this entire postseason and I suspect it's a lower body injury. I cannot think of a reason why his skating would decline at his age beyond injury. If you compare his speed to even earlier this year, it's way off. I would not be surprised if he ends up getting surgery for some ailment once the playoffs are over.

When other players decline, it's usually a mental thing (for example: Del Zotto). My eyes tell me that McDonagh's problems, on the other hand, are physical. You don't decline in skating at age 26 unless you're hurt.

I suspect he has a slight sore shoulder today after being boarded by Ovie at 100 MPH . Great to be Ovie and get away with that stuff....NOT !

I don't think he's been even 90 percent all season.

He needs a good, healthy offseason.

Preferably, after playing in only 9 more games, all of them victories.

I think you people are absolutely insane and unrealistic about your expectations for McDonagh.

I dont' think he's playing up to his best ability right now for whatever reasons (injury, whatever) but people talking like he's playing horribly and like he's the worst D on the team are just absolutely insane. He's still playing great hockey, he's just not playing amazing impact hockey like we've seen him do in the past.

But Girardi sucks, Edge.

But Girardi sucks, Edge.

I'm not even going to dive into the Girardi debates, I've got too many good ones going right now as it is.:)

But I will say that I sometimes wonder what people would think of Girardi if he were a first or second round pick. Same thing with Talbot.

Torts said something once and I kind of agree with it. He talked about Girardi not having the pedigree - meaning he wasn't a high pick, didn't set the world on fire, and didn't come up with a book of press clippings. He alluded to his belief that because of those factors, people were slower to give him the recognition he deserved. I think he as on to something.

I'm not going to say Girardi is perfect, or even elite, but he is very important.

From a value standpoint, I think Girardi and Talbot are underrated by a lot of people. But I'm not sure there is an easy way to change that.

I don't believe that's even true to the most infinitesimal degree.

Seriously. At any given time, half this team sucks and is the worst according to these boards, yet they all keep winning games and making playoff runs.

People need to get a grip on what it means to actually suck in the NHL.

Mcdonagh is still game in and game out the Rangers best defenseman even if he's not playing at his best.

What a terrible player. He's done, strip him of the captaincy, trade McDonut.

Shouldn't have been burdened with that to begin with. Wanted MSL originally, now I'm really thinking it should have been Stepan. Defenseman have a difficult job to begin with.

Kreider would have been quite the Captain, but the timing wasn't right. That "C" on his shoulder would've stood for "crush", "create" and "carry" the team in a few years.
