He'll need the next few months to heal and rest up. Very important player for the Rangers obviously. Very hard to achieve ultimate success when your best defenseman can't play at or near his top ability at the most important time of the year.

His season was fine, top defensemen on a presidents trophy winner. Give it a rest already, how many other defensemen would you rather have?
That's not a smart way to look at it. Regardless of if you think McDonagh was fine this year, it's irrefutable that he took an enormous step back from last year. Whether it was an injury or regression, we have no idea, but the guy should've been a Norris finalist last year. This year we barely saw any glimpses of that.

I'd rather have 2013-14 McD. :sarcasm:

Props to McD for playing through so much this year. He had a rough year by his standards though. And that's the thing...I criticize him, but not in a vacuum. By any metric, he was stupendous all year. But I KNOW what he's capable of. He's capable of being the best in the world.

He's the player I'm most excited to see in 2015-16.

Warrior playing with a broken foot. He'll be ready to go next year... Hopefully like 13-14 Mac.

In my not-so-humble opinion, he should have won the Norris last year. That was the best season by a Rangers defenseman I've seen outside of Leetch, bar none. (I'm too young to have seen Park, for those who are curious ;))

What's your solution, trade him? Still a great contact for the player, still in the top end of the league at his position and still the the guy you want out there to play defense. I agree his offense took a step back but maybe last year was an anomaly and not what is norm is for that side of his game, hopefully it's somewhere in the middle and when fully healthy his offense will get back some. I don't think he has been the same since the Burrows hit but I'll still take what he brings and he is hardly the problem.

Exactly what I said in the Yandle thread a week back. Everyone giving Yandle a pass because "oh, he must be injured, he's so much better than this." Give me a break. If any d-men on this team deserve the right to the injury excuse, it's Girardi and McDonagh, not Keith Yandle.

Definitely should have been in the discussion last year, which made this year's regression (whatever its cause) so troubling. Hope 2015-16 is a return to form for the captain.

I don't think he's a problem and there's not a chance in hell that I'd trade him, I'm just saying the criticisms of him this year were fair. Fine isn't good enough for what he is capable of. I agree about the Burrows hit.

Agreed. It's impressive that the Rangers won the Presidents Trophy without their Norris-caliber defender playing anywhere near that level during the season. But the Rangers need him to rebound next season.
