He gone. This kid is a punk anyway, all that Oh I may sign was all bullshit..I would respect him more if he just said a year ago I am not signing. He never had any intention of signing. If he had he would be by now.

The trio of Chad/Anthony/Kevin are the best follows on Sabres twitter, surprised by all the sour grapes in here. Chad is pretty much the only person online who seems to get any inside info from the Sabres org these days
It’s not sour grapes. Its the hardest of eye rolls at @Ace referencing Chad as if he is the final word on all things Sabres.

He’s hit on more things than anyone else in this town and is the guy who has people like you going into every thread dismissing him anyway. He’s going to get defended when that shit happens…because people just ignore that he’s right about a lot of shit

Not to veer too far off topic… But I think it would be interesting if the compensatory pick had to come from the team that signs is the player. For example, if you wanted to sign Johnson, you have to give up your own second round pick next year.

In theory, they could do this any drafted player and not just the first round draft picks - compensatory pack is just a round below what you picked. Heck, it would be more interesting If it was the exact round they were picked in! It would give other teams pause to sign away guys like this.

Eh, that would be a problem for the players association since it would put conditions into player rights movement. The comp pick awarded from outside of the league order is fine.

At least Portillo gave it to us straight. I am not interested in a rant but maybe the deadline would have played out different. Also whats with Adams saying he had real good talks? Sometimes I miss Tim Murray's brutal honesty.

Honestly, why wouldn't a young defender want to be part of this team? This team has all the signs of a perennial contender moving forward and they have shown a commitment to signing their home grown talent...

If the grass is greener for this kid, good luck to you.

This assumes these are the most important factors to him. What if good weather, lower taxes, or being closer to family are all bigger priorities to him?

They’re fine. Definitely pretty far up their own asses on certain points. See: Dahlin, Rasmus and how they were ready to trade him.

I also don’t think Adams was lying about Johnson and I don’t think Johnson knew he was leaving the whole time either. I do think Adams not willing to burn the ELC in the playoff race and get him in may have soured things.

Adams made the right call in not doing so.

I disagree. Johnson could have filled in the minutes that Stillman or Bryson did and not really negatively affect us. We have NOTHING by way of defensive prospects in Rochester next year (and I'm not counting Metsa or the other guy, as they're not on Sabres' contracts). I think Adams should have done what he could have to get Johnson under contract.

Still not impossible....but it's far more unlikely we sign him now.

So, nothing has come out saying he isn't signing but we are all assuming it?
I am. His main incentive to sign here was the ability to burn a year off his ELC. That is no longer possible. So no reason for him not to go to free agency at this point. And once he hits free agency..... the odds are pretty good he'll sign elsewhere, I think. If he were interested in signing here he likely would have by now.

Won’t even count Jokiharju (who i think would be a good bottom pairing guy) but we have 3 defensive studs 23 or under who will be logging huge minutes for us for years. Our defense core is young as hell.

I’m not exactly worried about our lack of a defensive pipeline as much as others. We need help NOW on defense, Johnson has a long way to go. It does suck to (probably) lose him, but I’m not distraught.

Did Adams say that? Who in the organization said such a thing?

I have only seen speculation but your post states it as fact.
