I disagree. Johnson could have filled in the minutes that Stillman or Bryson did and not really negatively affect us. We have NOTHING by way of defensive prospects in Rochester next year (and I'm not counting Metsa or the other guy, as they're not on Sabres' contracts). I think Adams should have done what he could have to get Johnson under contract.

Still not impossible....but it's far more unlikely we sign him now.
If Bryson wasn’t out there to play seven minutes and get scored on while providing zero offense how would we ever have missed the playoffs by a game?

How Adams answers the Johnson question(s) at his end of season press conference on Wednesday will be interesting.

Hopefully they ask about whether Johnson wanted to burn the first year of his ELC like Levi and if Adams was not willing to do it to get him signed.

You're expecting wayyyy too much out of our esteemed local media.

I'm curious whether something is cooking because media day delayed until Wednesday. HMMM. Of course, local media just regurgitates what is said and fed to them by Sabres. Almost useless now.

No it doesn't? He starts the sentence with "I believe" and then uses "may have"......those aren't statements someone uses when trying to state things as fact.
In all fairness, the sentence makes it seem like he is speculating from Johnson's point of view based on an Adams fact.

End of day it is all speculation, Adams doesn't seem to leak info and nothing definitive has come out.

Honestly what are you expecting? A tbn reporter camped outside the house of a ncaa player? He’s honestly not that important.

It's not hard. Make relationships and talk to people. Call them when you need info. Keep things off the record when necessary. Protect sources when necessary.

It's sports journalism. There are no national secrets.

If I were working as a Sabres beat reports, instead of relying on the "inside sources," I'd make friends with players, agents, middle tier management, etc. That way, nothing is an ask from a new person. I'd already talked to Pat Brisson along the way. A small text like "Hey Pat, what's going on with Ryan Johnson? Has he made his mind up yet? Thanks!"

Really not that hard...... In case Mike Harrington pokes around in here, I've got my BA in journalism.
