Dahlin? He played a LOT of the right side when he first started, particularly with McCabe and Scandella. I think he also saw some time on the right side with Pilut (before Pilut got stapled to Risto)

I don’t recall this to be honest but if so then great, it makes a lot of sense for the team if he can comfortably transition

So if he signs in the spring he can burn a year for 21-22. If he waits to become UFA; his first contract year is 23-24?

Hope this is enough incentive for him to sign.

I just read (trivial) red flags in that article ----> watching video of Adam Fox.... summer coached by his dad who works for the LA Kings.

Damn you Lance for trolling us.

His comments show him one step closer.

he has late July 2001 birthday. UFA in July 2028. Between now and 28 it’s 7 seasons. Him signing in March/ April vs a 22/23 start doesn’t VHA get when a UFA.

he stays in college then it’s till August 2023.

He doesn't have to wait until he's 28 if he never signs a contract, like Fox's situation. I can't see how this kid would sign with Buffalo, considering how bad they are and how deep down the depth chart he'd be, having the top two positions locked down for a decade.

This kid will never wear a Sabres jersey.

Johnson has played the right side in his career. Dahlin broke into the NHL playing his right side.

It's histrionics to say that he'll never wear a Sabres jersey.

It's a prediction -- I actually don't even care much since I don't love the player, so it's not histrionics. Just going by what I'd do in his shoes.

Would you go to Buffalo if you were him, after the Amerks coach just said how hard it is for a defenseman to play on his offside? For a team who has pretty much never successfully played Dmen on their offside? On a team that has been at the bottom of the league since you were like 8 years old?

Looking at it from the perspective of going to a team that is of no guarantee to keep those players in front of him and there will be a great deal of opportunity regardless if he shows well...? Most players express how they like the challenge, how they want to be the guy who makes a difference. It's just as likely that he falls into that category as well.

But there is a guarantee that they’ll keep those players in front of him, considering they were both 1st OA picks. No one thinks they’ll be leaving before they’re UFA. If he shows well, all he has to do is to look at recent history to see what happens; he’ll be stuck in the minors way too long like several capable dmen before him. I’m not sure he’s that much of a rube.

For a team about to jettison a 2nd #2 OA, draft position is not a guarantee of future viability.

I'm going to where I can secure the bag soonest and then playing my ass off for the world to see in whatever league I am in.
