You can prefer to have drafted a different player but still not want to lose any asset for nothing.

That said, I'm not worried about college draftees waiting four years so they can leave in UFA. It doesn't happen very often for 1st round picks.

They closed that loophole where college draftees become free agents if they jump to a CHL league. Or if they haven’t, nobody has been smart enough to exploit it.

It depends on NCAA hockey and what decisions are.

If the NHL doesnt allow players to winter games he could stay in college for that.

Probably no college guys at prospect tourney as they have already reported to college.

Work to sign him this spring. Make room in the lineup for Johnson and Power.

Butcher and Hagg/Bryson can sit to make room if they haven't been traded.

I don’t think he is playing in it, given that the college teams are already having their training camps.

I’d say there are 3 dmen clearly ahead of him: Dahlin/Joker/Power. Plenty of space to make the NHL roster going forward. Lefties play their off side with regularity in the NHL.
