How is 2 years $7 million dollars third line money?

Jeez, I can't believe you post the stuff you post.

That doesn't mean they need to cave to crazy demands, but they can work out the business in private and show some class.

I'd prefer this all have been kept private, too. But I think what we know about Overhardt's demands for Johansen's contract fits your description of "crazy demands."

This negotiation has been poor from the outset, with all parties culpable at various times. I'm assuming that what we've heard publicly from both sides is based on things said/done/expressed in private that would provide context but then they wouldn't be private. But it takes some stubbornness/missteps/miscalculation from all parties to arrive at where we are now.

Just two years ago Taveres signed a 6 year 33 million dollar deal. Seguin signed a 6 year 34.5 million deal to start last season. Last season was the first year of a 6 year 36 million deal for Eberle. Skinner 6 years at 34.35 million. All these were players coming off of their ELC.

I don't know, I would hardly call the offer(s) made horrible. I certainly can't say that Johansen is better than Taveres or Seguin. Even if you want to make the argument that he is, it's not a significant enough gap to justify calling the offers "horrible".

Is your dislike for the front office clouding your judgement?

It is also their first offer. If Ryan's agent came back with a counter of 8 years and $52 million then Columbus would likely come back with something a little higher than their original offer. It is clear Ryan's agent didn't do that. Columbus would be stupid to offer him their highest offer first.

Nick Foligno makes $3 million a year. Anisimov makes $3 million a year. They play on the third line. That's how. Those were recent signings too, obviously guys like Calvert are still on their entries. The bridge is fine but I don't blame the kid for being offended when the front office expects him to be the #1 center but get paid less than #1 center (Dubie) and the #2 center and the #3 (arty). A guy like Dubie is certainly more proven and earned his term but expecting Joey to take $3 million per I think is ridiculous, and then trying to invoke public backlash to pressure him into taking it is even worse.

if he earns 8/$80 then good on him, i'm willing to pay it...that part doesn't bother me...

Agree to disagree. I don't think any player is worth that much. I also don't expect him to do the things the other players who are paid that much have.

You wouldn't pay 8/$80 for Crosby, Malkin, Ovechkin, Stamkos? Having a player like one these aforementioned instantly turns your team into a perennial contender

I guess I wasn't clear the first time I said it. I don't think any player is WORTH 8 years and $80 million.

#CBJ Ryan Johansen has packed his bags and is flying to Vancouver.

So unless he is building up frequent flyer miles doesn't look like this will get resolved tomorrow.

Wow. Johansen is getting bad advice from his agent. Kudos to the Blue Jackets for releasing details of the contacts they've offered. A 66 point season doesn't equal a mac offer contact. Overhardt had to see that there was no way he was getting big money this deal. Still can't believe that Johansen is taking his agent's advice. Glad I'm not his dad because he'd be getting his arse kicked for being greedy and dumb.

Jackets decline to meet face-to-face with Johansen's agent, Kurt Overhardt. So, Joey and his agent flew out of Columbus today. What a mess.

Stamkos might be the only player on that list I'd consider. Malkin just doesn't play enough games and Crosby has had a rough go of it with his health as well. AO isn't worth his glaring deficiencies. Even Stamkos has had a hard time staying in the lineup the last couple of years.

To me it's a bit hard to carve out 1/7th of your cap to one player and the Hawks are going to try and do it with 2.

I would tend to care if we were dumb enough to sign Johansen to 10 mil per year.

This is what I am deducing from all that is being reported - Camp Joey is sticking to unrealistic demands. Maybe I'm wrong but this is exactly how I read it.

Nick Foligno does not play on the third line. You know this, yet are purposefully mischaracterizing to advance your opinion. I'd have thought you were confident/comfortable enough in your stance not to rely on such a tactic.

Cam Atkinson is not a ham-and-egg third-liner. What does he make? Should Johansen make "Cam money"?

He has no deal and has been told he can't use the Jackets facilities. What else is he suppose to do but fly home?

Not skating and working out at Planet Fitness doesn't do him much good.

Let the pouting baby sit on his arse in Vancouver. Let him play for the Vladivistok Killer Whales in the Siberian Elite League. Just get his punk arse out of Columbus where quality people live. Great that JD and KL effectively told him to get out of town.

Do you realize how ********* up in the head a 22 year old has to be to say that $ 3million dollars a year to play a sport is an insult? Joey has issues, lots of issues. But most narcissists never see it that way.
