RW Yegor Korshkov - Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, KHL (2016, 31st, TOR, traded to CAR)

Man if he puts these tools together, the Leafs will be laughing.

Korshkov - Matthews - Marner ;-;
He's probably only our 3rd or 4th best winger prospect too (Kapanen #1, Grundstrom #2, then arguable between Korshkov and Leivo). Probably our biggest wildcard prospect, very enticing tools, but could bust completely.

I would think Bracco is higher up on the food chain

Yeah, no doubt. For that potential Matthews-Marner line, I want either Korshkov or Grundstrom assuming either one pans out. Kapanen to me is a guarantee with Nylander especially with their pre-established chemistry.

Watching this kid play I can see why he was picked. His size and skill level is fantastic, he should be talked about more. He moves around the ice so powerful, and not awkward at all as he grows into his frame. That one timer is insane, great board work, IQ, and soft hands. You never know with prospects, but if this kid is developed properly, he could be a hell of a front line player, a draft steal..

He's 3+3 in 6 games after a new coach came. He was 1+2 in 19 before that.

Wish I could watch him more, especially in person. I know he started slow, but has looked much better as of late. I think with his size and skill set, he is very intriguing.

I actually see Korshkov as a pretty safe bet to make the nhl. In what capacity is the question. He's got the size and play style that translates well. The only question for me is whether hes a first line complimentary player or if he's a guy who'll play further down the lineup.

I like his tools, but I think there's a big adjustment to be made when/if he comes to NA - alot of the plays he makes are in wide open spaces that won't exist in the NHL (like the one posted yesterday), and I think he's still playing RW as a LH player - playing the off wing works for some in the NHL (Tarasenko, Ovy, Kucherov, Panarin, etc) but their skillsets seem to have a combination of speed/shiftiness & release where Korshkov's best qualities seem to be mostly related to using his size effectively and for that I think he'll be better with his stick to the boards side in the NHL so probably a move to LW is coming

could be a deadly addition to the cycle on a Matthews line if he turns out, but we shouldn't count that chicken yet

Is his usage better with the new coach? Why do you think he was struggling somewhat to produce before that?

It's impossible to say. Korshkov did pretty well the last season with a previous coach, so you can't say he was in the doghouse. Probably there was some kind of a mental block after an unfortunate start, and a new coach removed it. It's actually a common situation with young players.

It's like an NHL's change of scenary. Just not in a new team, but under a new coach.

Babs will give this kid every chance to succeed when he comes over. He's ex's Roy the type of player he liked to put with his skill guys in Detroit.
If he pans out I could see him with Matthews and marner (grit, passing, shot line) with a 2nd line of Grunstrom, nylander, kapanen ( grit, skill, speed line)

The whole team was struggling to produce tbh, Loko played the most boring hockey in the league. Kudashov's hockey is really sad to watch. I think it's combination of that and mental issues with the coach, like Kshahdoo said. This season Kudashov (previous coach) called their whole line overhyped and how they aren't working hard enough, etc. Hard to produce under the coach who wants total commitment to defense and puts no faith in you at all.

I wish we'd collectively stop living in a dream world where Hyman isn't glued to Matthews wing for the next decade. It'll make it easier if we just accept it now.

Korshkov looks good, but what a log jam he's staring down. Probably a few years out with Babcock unlikely to push down his darlings and Marleau on a three year contract.
