How can you judge defence by watching 2 secs of footage?

pretty sure he means that the defense was so poor *on that play*, not as a broad stroke about the defense in general. And the defense was absolutely awful on that play. There was 3 offensive players and 5 defensive players below the faceoff dots, one of the offensive players had the puck (Korshkov) and the other (Kraskovsky) walks to the back door, in the middle of 4 defenders who are covering nobody, meets no resistance and scores ones of the easiest goals of his career- you can bet that the defense is having that play shown to them over and over in team meetings as an example of what not to do

A Jet and a Leaf combine for a goal, world is coming to an end? :sarcasm:

Every goal is somebody's mistake. Have you considered the possibility of Loko players making a great offensive play to fool the defence? From 2 secs it s impossible to judge. Just because at the moment of the goal the D was out of position doesn't mean they were that awful.

Since there have been too much arguing about bad defense/good offense, I think I'd better post the full video of that moment, not just the goal gif:

Caser - other than the highlights, I haven't been able to watch him since he's come back from injury. Does his skating look any different? Does he appear to be 100%?

I don't see the injury having any impact on him (not like I'm an expert on skating though).

If he makes it to the NHL, what kind of player or comparable do you see for him?

To be honest i don't even know, maybe a very poor man's RW version of Malkin (I mean, I can see some similarities with the way he uses that frame to cover the puck and makes those passes)?

It looks like the game comes fairly simple to him, and he's clearly got some skill level.

Seems like the type of guy you plug next to Matthews and puts up good numbers while not hindering him.

Not neccessarily a top line forward, but a complimentary top six forward.

sign me up Korshkov can take Hymans spot as the complimentary player.

it's really not at all impossible to judge the defense on this particular play, X's and O's are done in a static medium, the equivalent of a single frame of film, and coaches use them all the time to demonstrate proper positioning

in this case, the 5 man defensive unit let 2 offensive players beat them without any harassment or pressure while simultaneously not covering any of the other 3 guys on the ice (the one winger moving to the right point you can see, the defense you can tell by deduction because you can see all 5 defenders and the defensive team's goalie so that's as many players as they can have on the ice)

on this play, the defensive zone positioning was atrocious, don't know how anyone could argue differently

that's an interesting take. From what I've seen of him, I think his best tool in the NHL is the ability to defend puck possession with his body, should be a deadly cycle guy especially if he puts on some weight

how about a very poor man's Jagr?

Now you are cheating by dissecting the play with a proper vid.

My point still is that happens in the NHL a lot too, so...

Every goal is somebody's mistake.

Malkin, Jagr, Backes all very far off I guess. He is not projected to be even a poor man's 1st liner in the NHL. He is a Patrick Maroon kind of a player.
