i am looking at the kids nyr has in camp right now, the college kids led by skjei, and buchnevich -- nyr could end up as being seen as having a real monster farm when people look back at it. I wouldn't be suprised if "this" farm has 6-10 nhlers in it covering almost the whole scale (cept that real superstar forward that we have like 20 of in this league).

(in no real order)
buch
duclair
hayes
fast
haggerty
lindberg
kristo
skjei
mcilrath
allen/zamorsky/bodie
halversson
the russian goalie (shesheheshhstorkin (sp?))

if this happen people will look at the prospect rankings from "now" and shake their heads lol, 29-30th overall?

while I don't agree with your basic premis I'd be absolutely shocked if we get more than 8 NHL'ers from the group above and be very happy if we get 6-7.

Just called up to the Russian National Team for an upcoming tournament.

Did everyone just miss on Buchnevich or did he drop because of the Russian factor?

Probably Russian factor. It's honestly ridiculous how some of these talented guys fall. Kucherov, Kuznetsov, even Kamenev.

He was considered as a good prospect, but not an elite one, also the Russian/KHL factor and also that he was something like at least 20 lb smaller at that time.

Should have been taken in the range Svechnikov will be taken in this year's draft. This player has mentioned he wants to come to the NHL, so I do not think it will be long before he's with the Rangers.

I think that's a bit of exaggeration, since Buch wasn't even considered as a first round talent back in 2013, while at this moment Svechnikov is expected to go somewhere in Top20, this draft year is stronger though.

Yeah, in all fairness though, it happens that hockey players develop a lot in short time, and that a lot of things come together.

There is a discrepancy between what works in the KHL and what works in the NHL. The first time I saw Buchnevich after he was drafted, he had several bad habits in his game on the ice. His coach in Russia had called him out for being lazy. And he isn't "super talented".

I think there only is 20 Russians in the NHL, and they produce a lot of good players every year. A lot of the good players that they do produce, do not end up with long NHL careers. If I am a betting man -- I don't think I pick Buchnevich in the top 45 at least. Buch ended up being drafted 75 overall... And I am fairly certain that I am a lot more inclined to drafts Russians than the avg Joe. So its not a big fall.

But after that, Buchnevich had a really strong year last season and improved on a regular basis.

Now when I see him, he is very very dilligent and smart on the ice. That is a remarkable improvement over how good he was at the time he was drafted to be perfectly honest. He has definitely gone from being a player in the more like the Zherdev mold to a player in like the Loui Eriksson mold.

So of course, the Russian factor has played a part in him dropping. But I think the biggest reason is that he just have improved a lot lately.

He definitely was considered as a first round talent.

I can't recall any pre-draft list where he would be in first round, even ISS, which is in general more favorable towards European prospects, didn't have him in Top30. I was really following him that year and when he was selected I didn't thought that he fell too much (like I thought about Kucherov a year before), I was fine with his place at the 3-rd.

iirc it wasn't his on ice play that was in question but his off ice training. Also I think the words from the coach about that weren't really all that harsh, it's just kind of been used as a possible reason he didn't go until the 3rd round

He'll do well at the WJC. Stylistically he reminds me of Alex Semin, albeit more play-making, less goalscoring.

Is he really considered Russia's team leader? Not denying it, just curious.

I think, you shoudn't even question this. The real question is will he be a good leader or not? I don't think he's as good as Tarasenko. But I hope he's better than Yakupov or Filatov. Perhaps as good as Cherepanov.

I think Rangers will get a very good player, who's NHL ready perhaps as soon as the next season. He can snipe, he can make plays, he can forecheck. Yeah, 3rd rounder.

Yep, in my opinion he is Russia's best forward from the 2013 and 2014 NHL drafts. Only rate Nichushkin higher. I think he has elite potential if he continues developing and the Rangers put good resources and time/patience into him. Great job drafting him, I recall you being shocked when you saw him drop to 75
