Would be interesting to see how accurate Vegas was in their odds/betting last year.
For what it's worth, the odds become a lot more telling the last few hours leading up to the draft. Wright was a heavy favorite the morning of draft day last year to go first overall (I believe something like -400/1.25 odds). As the day went on (especially with ~2 hours before draft time) Slafkovsky's odds started to drop and Wright's began to increase, going from pretty 50/50 to Slafkovsky becoming the favorite before the draft.

I've also seen crazy odd swings for the NBA and NFL draft in recent years, usually happens an hour before the draft when things become more concrete and obviously somehow somewhere get leaked.

In the end, i predict all of Carlsson, Michkov and Smith will go in the top-5. What order they go, who knows. But i think everyone outside the top-5 will be very disappointed in the outcome.

Teams in the top-5 will be happy with the outcome. Including the Habs who will take whoever is remaining.
I dont think I would be super happy about taking Smith, but there is a lot of worse outcomes so maybe I should be

Im not really a flames fan and that has much more to do with the team and being in canada than Calgary specifcally.

Feels like the most likely outcome is neither want him
Well players from other Canadian teams including the ones from frenchland didn't try to bolt as soon as possible

Well actually they often do. It’s not normal for a ship to sink this fast though because Calgary has almost all important players as UFAs. Usually teams space them out a lot better so you only lose 1 or 2 guys at the same time

Does anyone think GMs might be scared of a Kaprizov situation? Remember the Wild had to get the State Department and do some really crazy things to get Kaprizov back to the States last offseason.

I think if he falls further than expected, it won't be because of logistical concerns.

As a Montreal fan, if Montreal selects Michkov, I take out a KHL subscription to follow Michkov. It will be terribly exciting to follow him.

On the other hand, if Montreal does not select Michkov when he is available and takes a Ryan Leonard, I do not think I will support such a choice for 20 years.

He is a player that I rate at the level of Jack Hughes.

Only Dahlin and Bedard are more exciting to me than him out of all the eligible prospects since 2017.

What does Kaprizov's expired VISA have to do with Michkov?

The Wild went to the state department to expedite Kaprizov's VISA because the application/renewal process was backed-up for months due to Covid.

Why? Because he scores goals? Certainly didn't hold back Ovechkin.
I don't pretend to understand the mindset of a scout, but I'm reminded of the way they're portrayed in Moneyball (i realize it's a different sport) and it seems like they have a prototypical player persona in their head and start lopping off marks when these kids (I emphasize kids) don't meet their unrealistic expectations.

It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence.

As a Leaf fan, I hope Montreal takes him. Love the player and would love to see him play more often in our division.

Selfish on the ice is not a way I would ever describe Michkov. He utilizes his teammates constantly and is the best prospect in this draft at doing so.

Smith is a better passer though, in terms of creativity and wow factor.

I don't know much about Michkov but looking more into his numbers on Sochi, they're quite impressive. He had easily the best points per game on a KHL team as a 17 year old in a league that is notoriously difficult to pile up points in.

His best teammate had 30 points in 55 games. Michkov had 20 in 27. That tells me that a) his team is frickin' terrible, and b) he's got serious serious potential. I'd say definitely worth taking a shot at, especially if your team is a few years away from being competitive. Seems like he has a decent solid chance to be the next Russian supertalent. It's really tough to truly judge his game right now though, just because the context of his team and league is so different than the NHL.
