As a Habs fan, I've been pro-Michkov since the start, but if he's angling for a specific org, it makes sense for the other teams to pass on him.
I completely understand taking Fantilli and Carlsson ahead of him and frankly I would. I think you are almost guaranteed superstar players there with great size. But if you are San Jose, Montreal, or Arizona, you have to take the chance on Michkov.

He’s the type of player you need to take a chance on. Players with that level of elite offensive talent do not come around. The odds of Michkov becoming an elite offensive superstar is far higher than Benson or Smith.

Did you ignore my post? I'm well aware of Michkov's talent. But if he doesn't want to play for your team then spending a top5 pick on him seems like a mistake.

I love this smokescreen by Grier, sending out info how he's gonna drop because SJ is going to draft Smith, thus forcing Montreal to trade up and swap spots only to see SJ draft Michkov anyways.

GM of the Year.

@Canadienna If he refuses to play for the team who picks him, wouldn't there be at least two teams forced to outbid each other if they wanted him? I feel like that removes a ton of the risk

Not really. Michkov would still have all the leverage, and I don't think you are going to get 5th overall value back. The team that Michkov wants would know it.

Of course this is only if he will straight up not play for MTL. If he seems interested he's a slam dunk pick at 5.

french land = montreal?
It's atleast 50% english, you can live all your life in Montreal without speaking a word of french.
It's a bit ignorant to do so, but you certainly can...
I dont want to get into this debate for the millionth time, but yes Montreals only official language is french so it is a french land.

I wasnt even saying anything bad about Montreal being french, just used that as a joking name for it.

Would he be allowed to say I'll only play for this one team? That seems ridiculous. I would imagine the NHL would step in and say he has to provide a list of at least 3 teams he would be willing to go to. At that point the teams on the list have to bid for him

One thing is this time of year is silly season, everyone thought the Habs we're taking Wright or Cooley until draft night then it swung. That said If they want Michkov and are comfortable with the risk they should look at SJ or MTL and play them against one another because columbus will take the remaining center

He said he heard a rumor, that rumor is that verbeek is his own man and if he believes michkov will be the best player he wont give a damn and he'll take him and many believe Michkov is the 2nd best talent after Bedard. It was speculation from another hockey person and it wasn't Marek just something someone told marek fwiw.
We will have a better idea Thursday when bob releases his rankings.

Maybe smith but benson has some elite skills, he is a beast along the boards and his vision is top notch.

This is no smokescreen lmao, Michkov is going to be in Russia for a minimum of 3 years, and still could commit to stay longer there for all we know. There is a very real chance that as a GM, you're drafting a player that another GM who proceeds you will reap the benefits of drafting him. There is absolutely a world where he slips into the later half of the top-10, possibly even deeper just because of his commitment to playing in Russia a minimum of 3 years and potentially longer.

No spending the 5oa team on a superstar is still the thing to do

If he refuses to play for MTL (which is highly unlikely considering most Russians love it here), he can stay his whole career in Russia as his rights will remain ours.

Letting a superstar slip is a fireable offence in MTL. See KK and Bergy.

If Michkov only wants to play in WSH, habss will need to put a package big enough for Habs to consider trading Michkov to them before Ovie retires

All of this, "Michkov doesn't want to play for..." and "Michkov only wants to play in one city..." talk is complete nonsense and drivel leaked to stir up draft drama. The kid already said his dream is the play in the NHL and he's attending the draft. Outside of his obligations in Russia -- and any unfortunate global politics that arise before 2026 -- Michkov will most likely come to the NHL the second he can and play for whichever team drafts him. And when he does, he'll be an elite megastar.

I swear, the stuff people fabricate to draw attention on social media is outlandish lol.
