So if Michkov is a top 5 talent but he plans to refuse to sign with your team after being drafted, Does your GM refuse to draft him knowing his job may be on the line or does he draft him anyway with the knowledge he is the best prospect and that the GM may not be there anyway when the snow hits the fan?

Historical GMs try to preserve their own jobs.
Depends on where he drops. If you’re Grier and you’re told the guy you want at 4 isn’t interested in playing for you then why even take the chance when someone like Will Smith or Carlsson is there? If you’re drafting later; sure it’s worth the risk.

Why would Michkov be not interested to play in California, though?.. Anyway, he's going to visit Nashville so the Sharks management will be able to ask him about anything they want.

Weird thing. Nikolishin (Washington's scout) blamed Michkov in all bad things that happened to Nikolishin since he became an NHL scout. On the other hand a "source close to Washington is 99% sure that Michkov will be picked by Capitals if he drops to them"...

If you believe what a scout that currently works for a team says to the media about a player in a soon incoming draft, I don't know what to tell you.

They said the same thing about Vasilevski. Does not look like a locker room cancer to me.

Everybody lies at this time of the year.

Not really a surprise report on Michkov and the Caps. If he is there they are taking him. For all non-Caps followers Ross Mahoney has been the AGM for the last decade, he runs the drafts, and since then he has never backed off drafting best player available regardless of the situation.

Seems a bit over blown

Most of it is exaggerations to get him to fall, I would guess. As a Blue Jackets fan, I really like Carlsson, but I do hope that Michkov turns out very well in the NHL and that either the Sharks or Coyotes draft him.

I don't really understand why the Sharks wouldn't take him unless he does not want to talk to or play for them, but seriously, why wouldn't he? It's not as though the Sharks are going to be good before 2026 anyway.

If only the Tempe vote had gone through, then Michkov would have been a slam dunk for the Coyotes. A 2026 NHL debut for Michkov in the new arena would have been sweet.

FWIW: Scott Wheeler asked a dozen NHL scouts where Michkov would rank if not for outside influence.

Only one said between 6-10, a couple said he’d be right there with Bedard and everyone else had him top-3.

.

Of the 16 scouts asked 3 didn't see "enough" of him. Scout 4 didn't see him play this year and Scout 12 only once... You have to imagine that... the VHL games were/are freely available on Youtube and 5 of 16 Scouts know almost nothing about Russias greatest prospect since Ovechkin... The scouts answers are just as "professional" as I always thought they are after the Drafts of Kuch or Kaprizov. HF Caser knows more about Russian prospects than probably all NHL scouts together.

Or Mark Stone, Slavin, Gaudreau, Klingberg, Point, D.Toews, Forsling, Aho, Hintz, Fox, Bratt etc

Stupid scouts don't know NA and European prospect markets at all!

Marek thinks Anaheim is picking Mitchkov at #2 which is BS as usual.
Verbeek already has spoken to the media saying the player they are looking at #2 are CENTERS that have Size, speed and skill. That excludes Mitchkov from the conversation.

Add in that recently Zegras and Drysdale have followed Adam Fantilli and Luca Fantilli on instagram and are liking each others posts alot. Zegras said he knew McTavish was the pick in 2021 before it happened, so he probably knows who it is again.

Did he say this on his podcast? I listened to him talk to EF on 32 thoughts' latest episode and he said he should be the second player picked but knows it won't happen. Even said his mock first 5 was:

Bedard
Fantilli
Carlsson
Michkov
Smith

Don't Scouts just cover a specific area or league?

Why do you want a North American scout to give a half assed opinion on Michkov like an internet poster? I'd rather hear from the Scouts who cover Russia.

I love all this controversy about this player. Whenever he puts up a point per game in the KHL this year and looks like a world beater, there is going to be a lot of regret.

As a Habs fan, I've been pro-Michkov since the start, but if he's angling for a specific org, it makes sense for the other teams to pass on him.

Last year Yurov was definitely going to Buffalo. His own agent said so. Unfortunately we never got to find out if they’d have passed on him a third time after passing on him twice already

Do you think it's in a teams best interest to be transparent with the public on who they want to pick?

99% sure that 2nd most talented player in the draft would be picked by team at 8 if he falls to them. I'm shocked!

One thing is this time of year is silly season, everyone thought the Habs we're taking Wright or Cooley until draft night then it swung. That said If they want Michkov and are comfortable with the risk they should look at SJ or MTL and play them against one another because columbus will take the remaining center

He said he heard a rumor, that rumor is that verbeek is his own man and if he believes michkov will be the best player he wont give a damn and he'll take him and many believe Michkov is the 2nd best talent after Bedard. It was speculation from another hockey person and it wasn't Marek just something someone told marek fwiw.
