Not just you, but it’s set in stone Columbus is picking a C
Yeah when John Davidson said multiple times before the lottery they're taking a center you take it for what it's worth. Maybe he said that out of hopes they'd land with the first pick? I don't know. In Jarmo's media avail at the combine someone brought up Michkov later in the interview and in typical Jarmo fashion he didn't give anything away.

After all smarter people than you and I are making these choices right?

The other problem here is that Jarmo is on thin ice and he’s desperate for an immediate impact which is already obvious by the moves Columbus has made this off season. Drafting Michkov does nothing for him as it’s 99% that Jarmo will be gone by the time he comes over. Carlsson and Fantilli will be available much earlier.

That's true, can't argue with any of that.

Michkov definitely gives off a vibe of someone who has a high opinion of himself. Some people don't like that.

He's ultra competitive, takes the game very seriously and expects the same from others. Some people don't like that.

He's also a proud Russian. Some people don't like that.

On top of everything, he loves hockey. This is why he'll be great.

Montreal MUST pick him.

He'd be perfect in this city.
Like to see Montreal take him too but I think if he's there when San Jose picks they will scoop him up and wait for him to show up down the road

Love to see Michkov pot 40 goals as a rookie when he does come over that would be awesome! That would be superb for a team like San Jose who need a huge lift

If you think about, both Kobe and Jordan were assholes, quite often hated by their teammates, yet they were winners that forced others to train and compete as hard as they did

To the naysayers I ask that they give me a valid list of reasons for why top prospects typically disappoint and convince me how any of those stick to Michkov.

I can think of a few big ones from history: unanticipated hockey sense issues is one, lack of focus/commitment is another. Psychological issues (anxiety, substance abuse) sometimes come up as a factor. Injuries obviously, but hard to predict that. Being a bit of a hardass? Literally never happened.

Michkov is a freaking alpha. He'll be kicking ass and taking names. I see him speak and I see a focused guy who loves the game. Not necessarily a gregarious guy, but does anyone actually remember what young Mario was like?

NHL's orthodoxy these days is a bit too taken to the clean cut ideal of the athlete. It's pretty ahistorical for hockey (considering the game's rock-em-sock-em roots) and closed-minded too. You'd think some of these teams were picking out executive assistants, grading them on the agreeability of their smiles.

It was a joke, chief. Settle down and get off your high horse.

Thanks for the wiki link though. Definitely a reputable source that “educated” Americans rely on.

Ffs
Educated people wouldn't cite wikipedia itself in a paper, but it can be a perfectly good way to get citeable sources when an article has proper citations (especially if you don't have access to Jstor), as the sources are often accessible and the information within can be verified.

Ryan Merkley comes to mind (not sure if it's common, but "literally never" is literally not true lol).

I just hope he's not so alpha he winds himself in a Romanian prison one day /s .

I think with that last part it's the fans that come up with certain concerns based on what they might read from the hockey media. Behind closed doors I bet NHL teams still love a player that's elite but has some swagger to his game and himself. Hockey needs a Matvei Michkov and if he ends up being who many of us think he can become, so many fans of teams that don't have him will be like "F*** I wish we had this guy"
