Nikolishin has a good reputation, he is unlikely to lie. On the other hand, he is a scout for Washington (a tricky move so that Michkov falls to Caps).
Nikolishin was a scout for Chicago, but was kicked out (and for the former NHLers I think it isn't common to lose a scouting job), probably because of his comments about Shalunov, which were kind of unprofessional, so I personally have doubts about the reputation. I thought he is now a full-time media guy, not listed on the Capitals website among the scouting staff, are you sure he works for them?

I have no doubts about his reputation, he usually speaks the truth and directly, although sometimes harshly. I read yesterday that he is a scout for Washington, the same is indicated on the EP.

So either this is true about Michkov (which is quite possible), or Nikolishin's tricky move to make Michkov fall in the draft to Washington.

I've seen eliteprospects, but they can make mistakes too, that's why I was looking for an additional confirmation and I didn't find any in the Capitals-related resources so far (not to mention that with his media schedule I'm not sure when he can actually do the scouting).

There's also an option 3, Nikolishin himself has mentioned that Michkov declined an interview to him, so he might have some bad feelings about that.

Well, if only this
Скаут клуба Овечкина заявил об испорченной репутации рекордсмена сборной
«БХ»: Андрей Николишин – о возможном обмене Протаса

From what Nikolishin said, I may see he is trying to translate "my oppinion" in "everybody oppinion". I don`t know their story, but clearly from even own Nikolishin`s words you can see he personally has disconnection with MM.

Thanks, the second source indeed points to the different source where Nikolishin himself tells that he is a scout for them. Which still makes it look bad in terms of the reputation for me - I mean, while the other scouts are staying as anonymous as they can when giving their opinions, he is doing stuff like that.

Well, he's probably the kind of person who likes to give interviews.

I wouldn’t be so sure of that. SJ need help now not in three years. Smith will undoubtably need another year of development but he’s a lot closer to making an NHL roster than MM is. I’m not sure the casual Sharks fan will be very happy with the wait.

The Habs have a much deeper prospect pool. They can afford to stash him and the fan base will appreciate the decision to do so much easier.

Still say Michkov will be a Hab and be comfortable in blue, blanc and rouge. He’ll also be public enemy #1 in Boston!
You don't draft a guy based on the help you need now, you draft him based on whether you think he'll be the best long-term.You use trades and free agency to address current needs.

SJ isn't going to be competitive until they get more assets and get out from some of their dogshit contracts anyways, why should they not wait for a talent like Michkov?

I mean thats just not true, SJ needs help way less than MTL. We wont be good for years, but MTL is already trying to get back in with trades like Dach.

I just cannot see a market like Montreal being ok with a minimum 3 year wait. Sharks could absolutely do it.
Wouldn't it be the other way around?

I can see Montreal fans having the patience to wait for a potential franchise HoF winger, but San Jose fans thinking "3 years, ridiculous, who is this guy?"

N.B. I'm talking about average fans here, not HFB fanatics.

This boy would become a superhero in Montréal should he be drafted for the Canadiens but don't think the Canadiens management have the courage. Once more in 10 years down the line we'll look back at how stupid the management is lol.
Pandora's prospect

Draft michkov, he has piss poor attitude and plays 65 career NHL games, Leonard becomes matt Tkachuk , reinbacher is an Alex Pietrangelo clone and Zach Benson is a Patrick Kane player.

Draft Leonard, he develops into turner Stevenson 2.0 while michkov scores 750 career goals with Arizona.

Whoever Montreal ends up picking will bust. We just don't know who he is year.

Watched all his Sochi games, never saw a gleam of problems in his relationships with teammates, coaches and fans. There are some videointerviews on youtube, again he looks absolutely normal in them, and not a single interviewer said he was an asshole and told them to piss off.

And then this pretty questionable Nikolishin's whine. Oh well, the lower Michkov falls, the funnier it will be to read later all those sad posts about "why did we pass on him"...

My dream of him falling to Detroit lives on!🙂

Im not sure I have ever heard MTL fans of having a patient reputation, but I dont think sharks fans will be too upset given the team is going to be brutal in that time anyways and the casual fans will be checked out if they arent already.

It starts at 38:20. Says Mickov has a bad attitude towards teammates, coaches, management and fans, that he can easily drop out of the top 10 and the consensus opinion of him in the hockey community has changed for the worse.
His former Sochi coach about Michkov:

I am satisfied with his game, it is clear that Matvei plays with dignity, shows good hockey, he has the right attitude... He is blocking shots… his leadership qualities are visible, which help us in recent games.

He was praised for years as the next Russian Star and was a millionare 16 years old. So I can imagine that Michkov knows his standing and is showing it to teammates or even Refs (remember the double minor in a game with sochi). The fight with Miro certainly didn't come out of nowhere too. Maybe he needs only to grow up… for sure he is a leader who wants to win.
