You do realize had Russia not been banned and Michkov had destroyed a couple more WJHC, he would’ve also been in serious consideration vs Bedard (especially without a lengthy contract with SKA) instead of people discussing if he falls to 4th or 5th or more..
Michkov would have scored 20 pts in 27 games for SKA, he would be looking for a place in Anaheim. Don't put so much stock in WJC

Hence why i never made that comparison, but with Michkov his IQ is one of his best if not the best attribute. Ovechkin was physical specimen, if he had the IQ similar of Michkov’s he would’ve been the best hockey player of all time.
Michkov is a 18 yo unproven prospect. But he has the best or one of the best hockey IQs of all time!

Ovechkin has fought 4 times in his career, just because he once knocked out Svech doesn’t mean it’s really part of his game at all.

Michkov is clearly the better playmaker and all around smarter player of the two.
Agreed on fighting part but better playmaker? Based on what?

Fantilli 1+2 in 10 games
Leo Carlsson 3+2 in 8 games

Imagine what Michkov would’ve done to Hungary and likes had he been given enough ice time…uffff

1.Who are "Hungary and the likes"
2.Carlsson scored like 1 point vs Hungary
3.What Michkov would have done?

Anyway, it is interesting, we now have stats, advanced stats and imaginary stats.

PS Belarus is the mightiest team in the World.

Btw SKA players, who moved to NHL in last 10 or so years. Panarin, Dadonov, Gavrikov, Barabanov, Zub, Shesterkin, Podkolzin, Marchenko, Kuzmenko. Don't forget about Gusev who played in the NHL for 2 years. Tarasenko and Buchnevich were SKA players too before coming to NA...
Gonna catch em all strategy of SKA illustrated

Not even remotely close to what i said

And based on seeing them both play countless times.

To anyone who’s actually watched them play(even though I’ll probably get biased answers in a michkov thread😅) how does Michkov compare talent wise to fantilli and carlsson? If there wasn’t all the off ice stuff where would he go? 2nd? Challenge bedard for first? Would it be close between him and fantilli/carlsson?

Easily 2nd, probably would have challenged Bedard. He is closer to Bedard than Fantilli or Carlsson.

Stylistically, Michkov reminds me of Frankenstein blend of Kaprizov, Keller, and Stutzle. He has Kaprizov's world-class hands and skill, Keller's size and dynamic jitterbug style, and Stutzle's motor, fire, and dogged determination. I fully expect him to come to North America as a 21-year old phenom and put up high-end numbers from jump. If this kid ends up Nikita Kucherov 2.0 the teams 2-7 who pass on him will look like fools, regardless of what the kids they drafted do.

He's a lock for 2nd overall, no questions asked. Heading into this season, there were even some hockey people who said, "talent-wise, his high-end could rival or equal Bedard." Then the Russia factor multiplied due to his contractual obligations, the situation with Fedotov, and current global tensions. But hockey wise, this dude is the 2nd best talent in the draft for sure.

He's the 1st or 2nd best talent if by talent you only mean hands, vision, offensive IQ. It's more debatable once you factor in the slow skating, lack of size, strength, defense, etc... I think a lot of clubs would take Fantilli and Carlsson ahead of Michkov.

As a flyers fan I catch myself day dreaming about him not only falling to 7 but us actually picking him. A lot of unfortunate things have happened to this organization the past 10 years, let this happen!

Unfortunately I just can’t see him making it to 7.

I'm starting to hear rumblings he may fall. But I think the Flyers will play the let's wait and see who falls into our laps game and another team who sees Michkov drop to 6, makes a deal with the Yotes to leapfrog the Flyers and snag him.

It is funny how so many here call Michkov an unproven prospect. The guy played against men and not juniors… in the 2nd best league…

The only thing that is unproven is your eye test on him as you couldn‘t watch him… but that doesn‘t matter as you don‘t have to do the draft selection.

I expect NHL teams to have appropriate network in place to get good scouting reports on him.

Yeah NHL teams have access to full games both live and in archives of nearly every league worth scouting in the world. It sucks I can’t watch full games of Liiga, KHL, or SHL on a database. Hopefully FloHockey, HockeyTV or ESPN plus pick up some of these leagues in the future as the popularity amongst prospects rises

There are narratives in habs land about passing on both, if you can believe it.
Yeppe rumors about the defenceman Rennbacher at 5……wich would not be surprising considering their poor choices in recenttop picks ( Galchenyuk, KK)

As a Ducks fan, I wish circumstances with him were much different because I fear he will turn out great. However, I’m confused by the bolded. If Fantilli, for instance, turns out to be a 80-100 point power center with excellent defensive skills, why would that be a foolish move? That type of player can change a teams fortunes and be amongst the best. Granted, I’m not saying Fantilli will hit that level but I’m surely hoping he will.

If you can draft a player you consider elite without the three year KHL contract…you should do it. Pretty much the top 4 picks. It’s the Montreal pick at 5 that starts the real problem. Pass on him you’re reaching down way too far.

OV does a lot more than score. He’s a heavy body who can change a game with crushing body checks or knockout fights.
Michkov is a great player. But he’s a different player than OV.
Ovy knocked out another Russian.

Guy doesn't fight because he shouldn't and he isn't that good at it.

He can change a game with hitting and goal scoring.

Montreal fan. I’d go Fantilli @ 2, Carlsson @3, even with the risk Michkov might be better, just because you’re getting 2 sure top-notch NHLers. @4, I’d be 50/50 Smith/Michkov. But @5, if Smith is off: Do we pick Dvorsky or Reinbacher over Michkov? It’s like the talent falls off a cliff past Smith/Michkov.

With that said, i wouldn’t put it past our org to get really cute and ignore Michkov.

Well, it's like picking Barkov over Kucherov or Kane...
