I’m my mock they take Carlsson.
Yes, I think they take Carlsson. Someone also posted that apparently CBJ is big on Smith, no sources or anything, so I’m not sure there’s any truth to that, but I see CBJ taking Smith before Matvei as they really need a 1C and not another winger.

I really hope Grier takes Michkov if he’s there at #4. I’m sure Larionov will be getting a call soon to ask about Matvei. Larionov is probably familiar with Michkov and Larionov is still pretty close with SJs front office.

I said many times before and I'm saying it again I don't care at what number Michkov will be picked. But out of pure fun I'll speculate a bit.

So the first 3 teams won't pick him for sure. Chicago takes Bedard, Anaheim takes Fantilli and Columbus takes either Carlsson or Smith.

Now the Sharks. They are obviously not afraid to play Russians. First they signed Knyzhov. Then they traded for Barabanov. And this season they traded for Mukhamadullin and Okhotyuk. Knyzhov and Barabanov look ok on the team, and they have Larionov and Makarov as the team's legends. So no bad blood between them and Russians.

But. I'm pretty sure they will go the NA way which is to pick centers above all. Especially given one of Carlsson or Smith is going to be available, and both are seen as sure thing future 1Cs.

So it's up to Montreal to pick or not to pick. The team's chief scout is Russian, and I've seen a lot of Montreal blogers takes in the last few weeks to make an obvious conclusion they all are ready for Michkov. But it's the GM who will decide who to pick. Is he ready for Michkov? Yeah, one million (or even more) dollar question.

Of course I'm all up for Montreal picking him. Becuase this way we will see more talks about Michkov in KHL than Bedard in NHL in the next 3 years for sure...

As a fan of Michkov, I will wish him to drop to the #5. Montreal is a popular franchise (including in Russia), if they draft Michkov, there is a chance that he will come in NA earlier than 3 years.
Could there be an out in his agreement with his KHL team? There is alot to consider here, drafting Russian kids is risky, right now.

I am not aware of the intricacies of his contract, but it seems that under certain conditions he can terminates it.

He's destined for AZ... They won't mind waiting a few years for him to hopefully come over to North America

Would be crazy if Yotes get gifted Cooley and Michkov in back to back drafts.

Yeah but he's coming because he's been absolutely terrible and probably wants a change of scenery.
Didn't he return from cancer? Seems kinda harsh.

For now, the idea that Russia will lock up its athletes is based only on the fact that a 27-year-old guy playing for the Moscow military team had not done his military service.

All speculation is based only on fantasy.

Nothing has changed since February 2022 except the fact that Russia and Belarus do not play IIHF competitions, that the federations do not select players playing in the KHL and that the CHL discriminates in the import draft.

If Russian players are slipping, it's the bigotry of some NHL teams.
