GMs prefer control over development and that’s not an opinion. KHL may be the best option but the GM would prefer to be the one making that decision every time.

Well, when you lose your beloved ones the best way to overcome the pain is to go into your favorite activity. For Matvei it's hockey for sure. And he's still on the roster, just not the main one.

Michkov has consistently said he dreams of playing in the NHL and most of the teams that would be in position to draft him are probably 3 years out from really contending anyway. I would say having him for 3 years starting at 21 on a cheap ELC (assuming it plays out that way) would kinda be a dream scenario for a lot of these organizations.
As far as I understand he hasn't been cut, just not in the main group. As to why... well, we have a genius as a coach, who likes players who skate fast, hit hard and always put pressure on opposite players. Playing smart and scoring goals isn't that important anymore.

Has an Habs fan, I'm still dreaming of Bedard (I'm allowed until the lottery) but getting a guy like Mitchkov in 3 years could be a great fit. Our defensemen corp still need time to develop and we still need a 1G.
Miroshnichenko is another Russian kid "who'll probably never come", and he's coming. Probably in the stealth mode, like Splinter Cell's Sam Fisher so evil Putin won't see him going to NA...

Scored an assist vs Belarus, almost scored a goal if not a phenomenal save from the opponents' goaltender. I bet Matvei already thought it's a goal but it didn't happen...

Overall looked very good. Scored a goal, could have scored another one or two and regularly created scoring opportunities for teammates.

More players should try to take control of their development. Either way Michkov will come over when he's ready. No need to rush him be patient with his development and reap the benefits. In the mean time teams can develop the depth players around Michkov.

I think he’s a natural fit in SJ at #4. Timing fits (we still need to tank at least two more seasons), Grier has no problem with Russians (recently traded for Mukhamadullin who was playing in the KHL), and we already know Michkov looks great in teal.
