Im hearing some pretty wild news regarding him father, does anyone know if there is any merit to this? Absolutely wild if so and I hope the young man is well

Merit to what? His father died and it's sad. Hopefully Michkov's alright.

I'm just boxscore watching but he seems to be having a very quiet time with the U25 team playing against Belarus and Kazakhstan. 2 points in 5 games IIRC.
It's not an U25 team but "Russia 25". Spelled RU25IA on the jersey which could be interpreted for example as Russia's return to international hockey in 2025 or also read as RUZSIA where Z refers to certain ongoing events.

Has anything been cleared up about buying out his KHL contract?

Last I heard it could be bought out if he wanted to come to NA, but an NHL team couldn't buy it out.

Too early to ask this question. I think we can start talking about it in a year.

Michkov was injured early in the season, then returned from injury where he started playing in the VHL where he was scoring at a rate never really seen by a draft eligible player before (10 goals in 12 games played). He deserved a callup to St.Petersburg of the KHL but was essentially labeled as too weak to play against men in the KHL by their head coach Roman Rotenberg.
Michkov then gets loaned to one of the worst preforming KHL franchises HC Sochi where he has finally gotten legitimate playing time in the top-6 and has produced at a very respectable rate in the 10 games he has played so far (6points in 10 games). And that’s where we are today.

SKA St. Petersburg lists Michkov weight as 148lbs. Many prospect sites list him as 150lbs or thereabouts. If he is near this weight, I can see why the KHL coach made that type of statement. It could be lost in translation that he was saying Michkov needs to bulk up for the KHL.

Michkov's FOWs are not that good being below 30%. That might be an indication of needing more bulk.

He actually plays with edge, goes to corners, plays along the boards, doesn't shy away from physical plays. I personally think he should get back to more finesse hockey he used to play in junior leagues. He should play Patrick Kane style hockey, not Theo Fleury one.

I'm afraid Rotenberg will send him back to the MHL though if gets back to Kane style hockey. Rotten loves his grinders...

"Obviously, getting stories confirmed when it comes from Russia, you'll understand that it's difficult," said McGuire while appearing on 98.5 Sports in Montreal. "But it seems that his father was trying to invalidate the contract. His father's wish would have been to send him to North America quickly."

Yikes. No chance he gets taken top 5 if this is even close to confirmed.

There are reports today it may be linked to his father trying to get him to NA sooner.

sounds like complete nonsense from a lover of detective/conspiracy stories who has too much free time on his hands, lol.

Just in case this source doesn't know that it isn't possible to "invalidate" the KHL contract, the only thing that is possible is to cut a year via a buyout.

He isn't the source. The source is "Martin McGuire, play-by-play announcer for the Montreal Canadiens".

Apparently he said it on live radio. Should be easy enough to confirm he said it or didn't.

I meant him when i spoke of a tin-foil lunatic who loves detective stories, yes.

Really?

Reading the KHL rules, it sounded like it was possible for a player under 29 years old to buy out a contract at the players request for 2/3rds the remaining value of the contract.

Did I read that wrong or is it a paper only rule that doesn’t happen?

Article 32. Early termination of the Hockey Player’s Contract at the Hockey Player’s initiative

“2.1 if the Hockey Player has not reached by termination of the Contract 29 years, he shall pay the Club 2/3 of the earned remuneration (fee) amount that was not paid for the period remaining until the Contract expiry;”

in the last two years he will earn two times more than in the first four years. nhl clubs are prohibited from giving him money and i doubt he will take a loan from a bank to buy a privilege to try himself in the ahl/nhl
