Bit of a threadjack...

My view was that he was on Bedard's level. Still is. BUT I wouldn't draft him that high because, as a GM, I'd have no control over where he goes or how he develops. I draft him, my team probably sucks because I'm drafting 1st or 2nd and I may be fired before he ever suits up.

So my question is for Flyer's fans...

Are you happy with how he is being developed in the KHL?

Are you happy to wait two more years till he arrives?

That's all.

We don't really have much insight into how he's being developed at the KHL level. Some folks are able to stream the games and watch how he plays, but we don't really get the day-to-day. Will say that it's a relief he got loaned to Sochi, because SKA just didn't use him at all—and it's concerning that they still hold his rights and seem to not want to use him. Not concerns about the player himself, but whether he'll get a fair shake if he isn't loaned again next year.

Are we happy to wait? Sure, he's their best prospect since Eric Lindros. As good as the Flyers have been in the past, they've rarely had a singular talent like this one ever. If you've gotta wait, you've gotta wait—as long as he comes over eventually. Seems to be some belief that he could buy himself out of his last year and come over after next season. Briere and Jones have winked at "3 years or sooner" a few times, so that would be cool I guess.

Without a doubt. Still breaking KHL records for his age. Highest PPG ever for a U20 player in the KHL,

He’s a gamebreaker. To get that at pick whatever (6?) we got him is awesome. They can yank him around but he will still be the Uber talented player the same way I was extremely confident Marchenko would be an awesome player for CBJ despite SKA stupidity.

With his development and waiting two more years, my dream is that, when he goes back to SKA next season, Rotenberg gives a serious look at the center experiment he tried during the preseason last summer.

If he is just going to keep doing his current thing at RW, I'd be more interested in him finding a way to get to the NHL ASAP. But the potential development at center in a non-NHL league is very enticing. I'm really hoping it wasn't just a short-lived idea

it's juste a feeling i have that he will do like Panarin and Kuzmenko . And i think they will offer him a lot of money to stay in the KHL

The highest-paid player in the KHL makes the equivalent of less than $2m US. Michkov would make as much or more on an entry-level contract with full bonuses, and then at the end of it he could be making $12m+. Financially, there aren't any realistic scenarios where he makes more money staying in Russia longer.

I think he, Carlsson and Fantilli are all basically in the same mix and understand why you'd take the latter two and get them into the lineup immediately rather than waiting around and hoping SKA doesn't screw up his development too much. I was a big advocate to take him 4th though, no offense to W. Smith.

I will admit Carlsson and Fantilki have exceeded my Year 1 expectations. Having said that, I’d still take Michkov #2.

Yup. There were basically a top 4/5 and then a drop off. Flyers were very fortunate a couple clubs passed on Michkov for D.

This would be a tremendous double!

Russia has one weakness... Centres
Every NHL club prefers a C over a Wing

Who is his competition for the record?

Different suckers like Ovechkin, Malkin, Kuznetsov, Tarasenko etc... Alright, if it's KHL only then no Ovi and Geno, but you can add Kaprizov, Buchnevich, Panarin to the list of suckers.
Malkin's U20 season was much better than Michkov's, not even close, in PPG aswell, even though it is only a small part of the picture.
That guy excluded him on purpose, so he can write the catchy line of "record breaking"

Best part about him is that he’s completely unique as a player. Has his own distinct style. He has the Crosby/Kaprizov build but a different game.

Flyers have to keep adding young talent. It’s rare that you have a sure thing like this and time to plan.

Do you have a point to any of this?
Michkov has roughly the same ppg as Yakupov, Cherepanov, Kaprizov, Kuznetsov and Filatov at the same age. Playing on a team that has no tournament goals unlike those guys.
He is not at the same level as Malkin when he was 19, not close

The "record breaking season" is a misleading line, and it is very symptomatic about the coverage of Michkov here. You should only post positivity here
"Record breaking season!"-Yay!
"Higher ppg than anyone on SKA"-Yay
"But Malkin actually had a higher PPG"-don't spoil the party
"He is playing for a bottom dweller and can pad his stats"-russophobe!
"His PPG is similar to Filatov and Yakupov"-Shut it down!

1 year after Malkin's draft season(Or D +1) he had 32 points in 52 games. 2 years after malkins draft year(D + 2) he was just over PPG. 1 year after michkovs draft year he has 37 points in 41 games(37 in 40 if you remove his 3 shifts for SKA). You are correct in that Michkov is definitely behind Malkin in production in his D + 2 season after his draft. Although I rather strongly suspect this is likely due to Michkov's D +2 season not occurring until next season. Maybe I missed part this conversation though
