This is such a perfect encapsulation of what he does well.

He capitalizes on the fact that the left-defenseman has to help out centrally and the right defenseman to defend his pass. The winger might be helping out also or isn't going to think he has to pick up Michkov coming around the net after his pass.

Plants himself on the weak side with his stick on the ice, and waits for a scramble to result in a loose puck right to him.

This is the smarts of a goal-scoring wizard.

Exactly. Masterful reading of the play

If your big example of Michkov not living up to the hype is to say he is marginally worse than an older Malkin in a different league then I don't know what you're going for. What would living up to the hype even mean at 19? Most teams would take the next Malkin number 1 in basically every NHL draft.

Goodness gracious
Man that almost looks like a video game play where people would say "that could never happen in real life."

A big part of me wishes that Michov was in the NHL and the Bedard/Michov dynasty would be in full swing.

I dont get why people are so defensive when Michkov is compared to Malkin. First of all, it was pro-Michkov crowd who claimed that he has the best U20 season ever, forgetting about Malkin in 2006. Second, who should we compare Michkov to? He is a natural prodigy.

This season he is not ready anyway

I think player comparisons are usually a waste of time and problematic.

Malkin was an awesome prospect but a totally different type than Michov and the way he started his NHL career isn't going to be matched by Michov

Well then maybe they weren't getting the torch passed from Crosby/Ovi then.

Its a nice play but thats hyperbole. Michkov's obviously an insane talent and I also can't wait to watch him play in the NHL, but not every nice goal of his is this untouchable mythical god level IQ play

Did I say otherwise?

That play was just plain sick and this is a great breakdown of it and the skill of Michov.

If this guy is just 2/3 of what Malkin was, you just take it and absolute run with it. I feel we have a better grip of what he’ll be than guys coming right out of juniors. He’s playing against grown men at 18-19, feeling the hits and pressure against the board, similar to the NHL (I’m certainly not talking skill or speed) he’s definitely going to have an adjustment period to NHL speed and skill but sky is actually the limit for him. As a prospect, looks like a hall of fame type, but you play the games for a reason, haven’t been this excited for anything as a Flyers fan in a very long time.

So he ties Kuznetsov's U20 KHL scoring record. Both with 19+22 but Kuz in 49 games and Michkov in 47 games (46 actually if we take just Sochi games). Oh and Michkov is 6 months younger than Kuznetsov was.

And Michkov has 1 game left to beat the record.

His play around the net really reminds me of Crosby. How many times have we seen Crosby be in the right place at the right time jamming pucks in at that same exact spot?
