Speaking with a Kings scout recently and he raved about this kid and his explosiveness. Wouldn't be shocked if some teams had him comfortably in their top 10.

Goal in last game of the season. Good for his draft status ending the season on high note.

I like the fact he's got height/weight to support that skating. Even if he stopped growing he will still bulk up and gain strenght. Interesting prospect. Kinda makes you wonder what his season would've been like in a better team.

I like him alot. His upside is very high. I would hope that he would play CHL instead of Liiga. He would get alot of ice time and would get adjustment to the small rink.

I haven't seen Kapanen play a lot, but I have to wonder about his low shot totals. He's averaged just over 2 shots per game this year. Lehkonen averaged over 4 both this year and last year while playing on the same team. Obviously Kapanen can't shoot the puck a lot if his team barely ever has possession, but for me, this is still an area of concern, especially when you consider that he's never put up mind-boggling offensive numbers at any level.

Internationally he have been beast. He was one of the best players if not the best at U18 WC as a underager for team finland. Especially at the playoff rounds. Lehkonen posted more points but Kapanen was most dynamic and dangerous player. It's not easy to dominate FEL at age of 17 especially on the bad team but i'm doubting his developement at Liiga atm. I think that his style is very suited for the small rink and could post huge numbers at CHL.

I'm aware that Kapanen isn't the safest player of this draft but his upside is really high. If he ever has same kind of heart like his father he is going to be really good one.

That's why I'd argue Kapanen is the safest pick in the draft.

A young Sami Kapanen was an offensive dynamo - 5 back to back +20 goal seasons, then he transforms himself and puts up 6 more years of solid NHL player any team would love to have. 9th best player from the 1995 draft when looking by points in hindsight

and generally, when you look in hindsight there's 2-3 top 10 picks who are where they should be, The other 7-8 were picked later/much later

Big upside, great bloodlines. A lot of teams will be seeing Kasperi 2-3-4 slots higher than he would be ranked on pure skill because of that.

You do know that based on purely skills point of view Kapanen is viewed as arguably the best in this draft?

I think you meant to say overall game.

Either way from what i've heard he sounds alot like boom-or-bust type of player but having those bloodlines will certainly help him in that regard, considering Sami was always known as player with extremely high work ethic.

He's pretty much the forgotten player in the draft and one of the youngest. I wonder if his situation will be similar to Jeff Skinner's in his draft year where he was pegged to go 15-20 for most of the year and then in the last month it was made known lots of teams had him in their top 5-10.

Despite just fine season production-wise (keeping in mind horrid team) sense is Kasperi Kapanen though of highly still among NHL scouts 1/2

Think Kapanen has a good shot to go in the top 10, and would be somewhat surprised if he fell out of the top 15.

IMO zero chance he falls out of top-15. At the latest he'll go to Phoenix.

2+0 in U18 league's bronze medal game. Scored the OT winner with coast-to-coast goal which he finished with a between the legs shot. Absolutely ridiculous goal.

Stunning goal, even if against u18. Had he been in a better team it'd have had an positive impact on his draft rank. Really hard to judge a player based on stats when your team is sucking it up.

Interesting to see what he can do in a couple of years. Team change wouldn't be a bad thing either (if his father lets him go).

Maybe Kapanen should hide in Artturi Lehkonen's luggage when he goes to Frolunda, and resume his career there. Altough because his father owns Kalpa, Kasperi propably will get good amount of playing time.

I think that he should go play CHL. I'm not sure if he is mature enough to play effectively and produce points on regular basis in FEL. I know that he has really good potential and skill set but i think that he would benefit playing at CHL instead of risk of struggling at FEL and play too sheltered game. At CHL he could learn complete game. I doubt that he plays at CHL.

He's already in his draft year. It'd be rather pointless to be jumping to the CHL after he's drafted -- that's quite a rare thing.

An absolute gem Kasperi is. If he ends up being better than his father thats quite a player.

Yeah, it would be. But I honestly think that will never happen.

Usually I try to avoid saying negative things about top Finnish prospect, but... in my opinion he's somewhat overrated. And I've talked about this with some other guys that also have played against him, and they have agreed with me.

I'm not doubting that KK will be a solid pro; actually he already is that. But will he have 60-point season in the NHL? I'd never bet one cent for that.
