I didn't mean it as if the play was pure luck, but the margin between error and success is so thin on that play that it requires some luck to work. That doesn't mean Kakko didn't show insane vision and good decision making in attempting that play. You'd say that if Kakko didn't make passes like that frequently. But everything he does is nowadays put to luck so maybe he just is the luckiest person on earth and doesn't actually know how to play hockey at all.
Apparently, yeah. This season's testament to that, isn't it?
Very funny reading that Kakko's one of these lower end #2s, closer to Podkolzin, what have you. Well, from what I've seen, he's dominant vs NHL players.
I wonder what Jokke Nevalainen thinks now about me saying that Kakko right now is better than Kotkaniemi. He disliked it so much he decided to publicly shame me on Twitter.
Always nice to hear from the "objective" analysts like Ferraro going, "Yeah I don't think a 7-8 game tournament is gonna undo what we've seen the past two years". As if Kakko just showed up in this tournament and didn't have a historic liiga season and two golds.
I doubt he said that but if he did I’m laughing because Hughes ha been ragdolled by him every game they play.Congratulations NYR fans.
Jack Hughes himself said on a pre-game interview, that "this game or tournament won't matter, U18 tournament sealed my position already."
So maybe this comment included some inside information, or something, but sounded a bit weird.
If, that's the case, New York Rangers will get the BPA with the 2nd pick.
Again, congratulations.
I would take everything Ferraro says with a salt mine.Has Ferraro really watched Kakko consistently for two years?

No one credible or rational is calling Kakko a lower end #2 pick. If anything, he's one of the best #2 projected picks we've seen in awhile.Apparently, yeah. This season's testament to that, isn't it?

I hate what this rivalry has doneto these boards, but this is a hilarious picture all things considered.
Finnish tabloit got a nice picture

It's pretty weird, isn't it? That a u-18 tournament where Kakko didn't even participate... Well, whatever. Not very surprising.I doubt he said that but if he did I’m laughing because Hughes ha been ragdolled by him every game they play.
When did we last see a prospect this dominant with the puck, anyway? Eric Lindros?With/on the puck Kakko is the most dominating draft eligible prospect I've ever watched play WHC.
He played most out of forwards.Kakko was ridiculous yet again and I really don't know what to think of anymore about the way he plays in the corners, tight space or in traffic. No 18 year old should be able to do that against a team full of NHL stars. Pretty breathtaking.
I haven't checked how many minutes he got this time and it baffles me how little Jalonen actually uses him despite of Kakko being the best forward in this team already. If he had Aho, Barkov or Laine for instance, there's no way they'd be playing 12-15 minute games. Even in the overtime he just got one shift which made so sense for a coach wanting his team to win the game. Something's just not right with him even if he's an alright coach otherwise (strategy etc).

Yep.. still someone got a nice pic, and right now the picture tells the truth.. Kakko is more mature than Hughes, but they got ~15 years infront of themJust feels like a classic case of one guy being more physically ready for "men's games" than the other guy. But that doesn't necessarily mean that the other guy doesn't have equal or even greater potential.

Very happy to see it, though. If Jalonen would give him 20min per game I think he could still have a monster tournament, even if this game went pointless. 6 shots on goal, on ice for both Finnish goals. And another empty net pass whiff by a teammate. He played 18:46 in this game (the highest of any Finnish forward), so it's safe to say that Jalonen is steadily increasing his minutes on the ice.
It's understandable that he probably didn't think a 18-year old kid would be ready to carry the biggest responsibility, until proven otherwise.
The problem is that nowadays first overall picks are expected to be impact players in the NHL immediately, it can be destructive to player's development if they aren't at all ready to take that step yet. Hughes has great potential but he doesn't get to go to the NCAA or so for a few seasons like he probably should. Just has to dive in the deep end and hope for the best.
