Avoid contact likely? These sly remarks on Hughes are getting real old. Makes me a bit embarrassed to be a Finn on these boards.
That tends to be very optimistic when playing as a center - avoiding contact. It's not a hit, it's just a board battle. Even McDavid partakes in board battles. This is done both in the offensive as well as the defensive zone.

Best player in the draft.

Who was more dominant in Liiga, him or Laine? They play very different games from my viewings.

Kakko's easily more dominant, if that's the verb we are going to use. I don't think we've seen Kakko's ability to single-handedly dominate and take over games before in Finland.

Laine was very clutch in the playoffs, though. To be fair, he was in a better position to success with his team.

If he can drag TPS to the Luga title = champions then we might have a case for Kaapo being more clutch/dominant than Laine. Is he better, apples and oranges. Time will tell. Both should only get better. Laine should drop this Fortenite craze or whateve it is though. Not sure if serious, sorry.

Okay, do we have the first overall here?

What? Laine wouldn't be able to carry this TPS team to the second round, so I'm not gonna hold it against Kakko if he can't. They are putrid atm.

Interesting, thanks.

He appears to be to have a better defensive game and plays a more NHL style game with strong puck protection.

"Cluth" is different from "dominant". While Laine displayed some very good shifts as well, they weren't nearly as impressive nor nearly as frequent as Kakko's. And Kakko with his team is in a far worse situation. The year after Laine left, Tappara won the championship without him.

TPS has won 3 of its past 12 games. In those 12 games, TPS has scored 25 goals. Well, out of those 25 goals, Kakko has points in 12.

Sorry if I haven’t been following TPS that closely lately. What has turned the tables and made them suddenly a pityful bunch and bench of plugs? Last time I checked they were doing quite well hanging on the 2nd spot in the regular season table. A play-off choke of the year la Turku?

Kaapo cannot carry a team of plugs but as a spark plug rather he should be able to ignite the engine and make it run on all its cylinders full throttle.

I prefer him to Laine as a prospect

They started choking late in the season. Fell to 6th. Filppula never got back to the groove after injury, Korpikoski came back and hasn't been effective. Big problems with breaking out of their own zone, I'm gonna blame that on their Dmen and system both sucking ass. The team takes a ridiculous amount of penalties too. Plus they were very dependent on PP during the regular season. House of cards falling apart.

If Kakko's play doesn't "ignite" them then nothing will, lol.

As above may I express my sincere surprise and confusion on this bleak state of affairs. Yet, we must remember that Laine and his team inspired by the sniper kid and his tricks and feats faced the toughest possible opponent Karpat on their way to championship. There were sneaky Aho and brisk Pulju among other big names trying to beat the Tappara and thier star youngster early on. But Lain showed dominant and clutch plays and led his team to the Victory. Kakko should do something more than goals apparently lol - to wake up his team.

Very true. Jack Hughes would probably skate circles around FEL defensemen.

How did they get home-ice advantage for the quarterfinals if they were 6th

Barkov was.

As McDavid and Crosby already came up in this thread, we should also remember that Barkov is a player who is more useful than McDavid for a team that wants to win the Stanley Cup. Right?

And Crosby isn't all that useful in a Stanley Cup hunt either, because he's no Kopitar, Bergeron, or Toews. He just scores a lot of points.

For those who get to watch him frequently. I heard he played some center earlier in the year, but everywhere I look he's listed as a winger. Is he still playing center? Will he almost certainly be a winger at the NHL level?

Naah, he played C for like 5 games or something. I bet he'll be a winger.

4th, my bad obviously. The main point was that they suck ass right now.

Disappointed with Kakko's game on Saturday. The kid couldn't even score three...

Honestly how bad is this TPS team, when an 18-year old is the only one able to compete in playoff hockey. Pathetic. Expecting another 2 goal night from Kakko, which is needed if TPS wants to win tonight.

Vesa Viitakoski was quite dominant at his rookie year, physically.

By that I mean that people seem to have short memories.
