He a good enough player to make you realize he doesn’t have bad games. He played 47 minutes Wednesday night and played really well. His skating from the first of this year to now has improved a lot.

In the second and third OT, everyone was dragging. I was just impressed that they could get up off the ice toward the end of that marathon.

From a mega Moose fan I know, he said last night was a good example of Dumais being negated due to big bodies playing playoff hockey. Unengaged physically and was never a threat to shoot and had little impact on the game.

Your friend knows Dumais is number 11 right?

This is the life of a small player... :(
and the lack of scouting...
There is tons of scouting in Halifax and the Maritimes. There are guys from Moncton and Cape Breton there, lack of scouting isn’t a reason the teams never invited him, and 2 of the teams aren’t even eligible to send anyone because of playoffs and Memorial Cup.

I meant, lack of quality scouting.

So what’s the knock against him, aside from the obvious? Poor skater?

He is a good skater, not for his size, in general, skating is not an issue.

Of all 2022 draft eligible players, Dumais scored the most goals, assists and points.
- regular season, or regular season and play-offs combined

In total of 73 games this season, Jordan scored 41 goals and 75 assists, 116 points.

But oh no, he is 5 foot 8 and weighs just 165 lbs... and supposedly for his size
his skating just isn't good enough...

Well, yeah. That’s why teams aren’t high on him. The same reason teams weren’t high on Corey Locke, who was one of the most productive, skilled and smartest players to come out of the CHL in the 2000’s.

Cory Locke? pfft.

There are no similarities with Cory Locke and Jordain Dumais,
well, other than almost the same height.

Completely different style of hockey for one.

Locke was a perimeter player, also, he was a center
Dumais drives the play, winger, is aggressive , also goes to the net.
- really solid two way game to boot what supports his high point production

Honestly have a very hard time believing you’ve ever watched Locke play reading that.

Elite Vision
Elite skill
Very small stature
Average skating

Where as Dumais has

Elite Vision
Elite Skill
Very small stature
Average skating

He, like Dumais, is head and shoulders more skilled than others.

Won best playmaker, 2nd most dangerous in goal area, 2nd best stick handler, 2nd best shot and MVP in the OHL before leaving.

He, like Dumais, was extremely, extremely skilled. Head and shoulders above the league.

He, like Dumais, had the exact same questions about his transition to pro. How is a guy that size, with the skating he has, going to make room and play his game against NHL D who are all big and skate like the wind to take away space?

Will his career play out like Lockes? I have no idea. But to pretend that the questions surrounding both guys are not basically the same is ignoring what’s being questioned about his game.

I mean I don't think anyone would deny his skating needs to get better. Skating is something that can be improved though with work ethic and a team with a good player dev department. He isn't a bad skater either...he just isn't taking guys off the rush regularly so he has been written off as bad/average. But how is this any different from the majority of prospects that get drafted? How many are a finished product or don't have a critical area of development in order to reach their potential. That goes for the small guys and the big guys. The list is very very small each year.

Skating can be improved, but it’s definitely not something easy, especially for a smaller guy. It’s easier to fix with bigger lankier players who have stride and mechanic issues.

If teams think his skating can be readily improved, they will step up to draft him in the early 2nd/late 1st.

Is skating easier to fix than the skills he possesses in skill and hockey IQ? Absolutely. He’s probably one of the smartest and most skilled in the draft class. Is it an easy fix, especially for a smaller player? Absolutely not, it’s very difficult to make strides in.

Most/all guys aren’t finished products, but teams generally look for players with + skating. One thing teams look for is size. Most would rather draft bigger players. Another trait they look for is guys with + skating. A guy who has a very small stature, who isn’t a strong skater, isn’t going to be valued high at the draft. That’s just a reality of the league. We see that with no invites to the top prospects game or combine even though he’s the best statistical player from the CHL in the draft.

Can he make some pretty substantial improvements in that area? He could, but I wouldn’t bet on it, personally. If a team thinks he can, they will happily step up and take him and then hope he improves that area.

His rankings and non invites to these NHL populated events tell me teams and services are pretty weary of that issue.

He will be a career AHLer. Avoids traffic, not a great skater and floats for the stretch pass most of his TOI.
Tell me you haven't watch Dumais play without telling me you haven't watched Dumais play.

Saying he waits for a stretch play on most of his shifts is an idiotic statement to make.

Is he a quick skater like Mackinnon or Ehlers who played in Halifax? NO - but he is not a terrible skater by any means either and when he has to use his skating on the back-check he shows how quick he can be.

I watched Dumais live all year, you obviously didn't or you are just trolling.
