Tell me you haven't watch Dumais play without telling me you haven't watched Dumais play.

Saying he waits for a stretch play on most of his shifts is an idiotic statement to make.

Is he a quick skater like Mackinnon or Ehlers who played in Halifax? NO - but he is not a terrible skater by any means either and when he has to use his skating on the back-check he shows how quick he can be.

I watched Dumais live all year, you obviously didn't or you are just trolling.
I have and do not wear rose colored glasses and am not a rabid Moosehead fan.

I have zero skin in the game, I'll just throw this out there... I was a huge fan of Zuccarello when he was here in NY. Zucc was never really known as a burner. He's a pretty decent skater, he had some speed when he needed it... but more so than anything else he was a just a shifty little player with really good offensive abilites. That sounds a lot like what I've seen about Dumais, so I don't think it's necessarily a death sentence if he's not an elite skater at his size

Well, yeah. That’s why teams aren’t high on him. The same reason teams weren’t high on Corey Locke, who was one of the most productive, skilled and smartest players to come out of the CHL in the 2000’s.
People love to use Locke as an example for not overrating small offensive forwards out of the Q and some of that is justified, but one thing that most don’t know or seem to have forgotten is that he was drafted as an overager. He had a mere 43 points in 55 games in his draft season and was passed over. Then he exploded in his draft+1 season, as so many forwards do. I have no skin in the game, have not seen Dumais play, and I provide no opinion on the player here, but Dumais put up these numbers as a 17 year old, something Locke and many other overrated Q forwards in the past could have only dreamed of. Something to consider, that is all.

Not that it really matters, but Corey Locke was an OHL player. :naughty:

We use Simon Gamache from the Q. :)

I hear a lot of criticism against him for sporting facts (skating, lack of physical) understandable.

However, his athletic performance is exceptional. Very close in offensive production to Alexis Lafrenière at the same age in a not very strong team.

This should not be underestimated. Hockey is all about chemistry. More than a shoulder or skating contest.

He can very well become a winger with excellent offensive flair who performs alongside a dominant playmaker and a power winger.

I prefer him to Lamoureux, who doesn't have a very good level but who is just there because he is very big and skates well.

Dumais must have some exceptional qualities in skill and understanding of the game to do what he does.

I prefer that rather than a physical and fast player who doesn't do anything extraordinary.

He had a great season, but benefitted from a really high shooting percentage and a good number of PP points. I am skeptical he'll be able to build much on even this past season, and don't see an NHL skillset here.

He is a very clever player though, and his softer, area type passes are perfect for junior hockey. But I think he will struggle at the next level.

Always happy to be proven wrong though.

Jordan Dumais is just the type of player who you look at him play and you think; yeah he just haves it,
that special something that gives him extra advantage over his opponents, that absolutely translates to the NHL.

It was the same with Alex DeBrincat, many questioned his skating and small size (height & weight),
those people just got blinded by his outside looks and couldn't focus on the things that mattered,
and how insane good player he already was at the CHL level.

I don't think Jordan Dumais is gonna be as good as Brinksy,....but.... not everyone are.

Nic Petan is a much better comparison than Corey Locke.

Petan played with the likes of Jones, Dumba, Bjorkstrand, Motte, Pouliot, Rattie, Bärtchi, Lepisic....
on a stacked Winterhawks team(s)

Dumais is playing mostly with 16, 17 and 18 year olds...
Halifax has just 3 drafted players; Desnoyers, L'Heureux, Orr
- all 3 drafted last year

12 x 2022, 2023 eligible players

Dumais played with Desnoyers who is an offense driving beast and Cataford who improved immensely.

Tell me you didn’t watch Petan in juniors, without telling me you didn’t watch Petan in Juniors.

If you were active on these boards when Petan was in juniors you’d have the same fascination for Petan as you do Dumais.

I like Dumias, have him at #39 in my rankings but that doesn’t mean I ignore the red flags around his game and other players that played a similar game in years past.

I was actually really high on Petan because I felt he could overcome his skating issues, but he never got there. Dude had waaaay better puck skills than Dumais honestly. Best saucer passer I think I've ever seen.

I watched, i see no similarities. Also, i see no red flags around Dumais.
matters of a opinion i guess

Honestly, i have no idea why some think skating is an issue for Dumais

He is the type of player who skates faster, when its required of him,
if he looks, skates slow at times, its because he is doing so intentionally.

His game is all about running the play while slowing the game down,
but, for example, as you can see from his highlights, he can skate
really well, fast even, when its necessary, carrying the puck from neutral
zone to o-zone, or when ever there's a rush.

I think most of here (and many scouts) been blinded by McDavid
and he has become some sort of standard, when it comes to skating,
which is dumb.

If you are small and not bulky, if you don't skate like McDavid,
there is no future for you in the NHL..... LOL.

What is ELITE skating anyways... i think its an idiom word
these days, that should not be used as it is used today.

one thing to slow down the game against kids another thing to slow the game down at the NHL level. Even elite NHLers struggle to do that.

So as you say when his game "all about running the play while slowing the game down," you can understand why there are question marks about how well his game translates to the NHL level.

With that said I like him, and would totally take him with a 2nd. He is young and like all players can improve and add more facets to his game.

Would David Desharnais be a good comparable (stylistically, I know David was a C)? I get that vibe from the highlights.

Small, smart player, excellent vision, great passer, can complement well other talented players... Soft, not the best shot, not the best skater, stays on the periphery. Great stats in junior.

Say what you want about Desharnais, he ended up having a decent professional career for an undrafted, undersized player that played in the ECHL!

And I might add that Locke was very close to the NHL. Look at his AHL stats, we don't necessarily know why his offensive success didn't transfer to the NHL. There might be aspects we don't know. What I mean is that Corey Locke was an excellent hockey player that wasn't developed to be an NHLer, he could have been in my view.

I also don't have a dog in this fight, I haven't seen Dumais play, but I also am not a fan of the Locke comparison.

Desharnais wasn't the fastest, but he was a little waterbug out there and played the game with a lot of pace. Dumais is more like a very poor man's Hemsky.
