Wonder if habs pick him with our early 2nd

If we want him, we might have to take him at that spot. Not sure he is still on the board when it comes to the Oilers 2nd. Very curious to see where Bob ranks him in his end of season rankings to come out here shortly

Julien Brisebois picks him in the second round, seems like a Tampa type pick

Tampa will have to take him with their 1st. They don't have a 2nd or 3rd in this draft.

Tampa doesn't have a 2nd rounder.
Dumais in Tampa Bay is the best fit possible. Top AHL team, good at developing players and they draft skills and do not care about size. Size can be obtained differently and they are so good at filling those gaps and build championship teams. But they are in a weird position with no second round pick. They either pick him in 1st or he’ll be gone in the third.

If Halifax goes far in the play-offs and if Dumais continues his incredible season as it is.

Score like 25-35 points, it will be crazy to see him go like late 2nd or early 3rd round...
Obviously 100% should go first round, but will he? a different story.

If he was that, he would not be playing PK minutes. Weak he is not and there is obviously nothing
wrong with his skating, size or no size in question.
If you think there’s nothing wrong with his skating you’re not watching

He could be a steal, he’s extremely skilled and smart, and will have a monster year next season. But I’m not sure I can name a player his size with skating as poor as his that was in the NHL the past 20 years.

It's like scouts won't admit he could be great!
Central Scouting are not real scouts, if they would they’d be somewhere else…lol…but we know they’re not super credible…lol. On the Dumais topic, right now they look bad, but its too early to judge. If he’s picked 3rd round or later , i’ll be the first one to admit that they where right….if he goes earlier, i’ll be the one to admit that they where in the left field and full of shit….but overall they’re really bad as a group…so many crazy stuff in that current ranking…i just don’t look at that crap cause it does not look good to my profession.

Maybe Pavelski, but even Pavs has a couple inches on him.

agree with you. this kid has elite IQ and talent, but his feet need work. at least IMO. i'd personally
bet on a guy with that kind of brain, but wouldn't shock me if he ended up in 3rd round or so

There's plenty. At least 2 I can think of in Montreal only :

Brendan Gallagher
Mathieu Perreault

Elsewhere, I could think of :

Nils Hoglander
Eeli Tolvanen
Seth Jarvis

His stance, his hands, when he passes the puck reminds me of Patrick Kane,

His head also, slightly down, not giving away where he passes the puck
and the ability to wait until the last moment, to pass the puck.

Very Patrick Kane like style of passing.

It's nothing like Kane. Kane has a way smoother passing motion and much better posture.

I don't see it with Dumais. Reminds me a bit of Matthew Philips. Smart, crafty player but I don't see how he's going to be able to create time and space for himself at the next level. On top of that, I feel like he relies on a lot of softer area passes taking advantage of all the extra ice in the Q.

Seth Jarvis is a waaaay better skater lol.

Problem with Dumais is as a small player, he is an East to West player rather than a North to South. His skating means he isn’t very good in transition, which as a small player is one of the most important things you need in order to he sucessful at the next level. As has been mention , Dumais has really good vision and finds lanes no one else sees.

There are two scenarios I see for Dumais:

1: His skating improves and becomes better in transition allowing him to be a Brayden Point like player.

2: He doesn’t improve his skating much and floats around the NHL for a while like Corey Locke or Nic Petan have.

He definitely has high potential but option two seems to me like it’s the more likely scenario. That being said, having him at 73 among NA skaters is a cruel ranking by CAS.

I really like this evaluation of Dumais, and I especially like the Nic Petan comp. Really good post.

That is a pretty good assessment. The key thing for him is that he ends up in the right organization thay will help him, invest in him and believe in him. I could name 5 teams where he could become a 1). If he is drafted by a team that wants to take a chance and do not develop him appropriately and likes the big guys he will not even become a 2) and I can name 15 teams like this. I think it might be a blessing for him that he is not ranked that high so that the right team will pick him at the right time, which to me is somewhere early in the second round.

Central Scouting are not real scouts, if they would they’d be somewhere else…lol…but we know they’re not super credible…lol.

I'd say people watching games and ranking players are "real" scouts... What else would you say they are? Also, imo, a job is a job. Other than potentially the money, what else is so great about working for an NHL team rather than Central Scouting? There are many NHL scouting jobs that are handed to people due to their connections rather than their talent. Central Scouting has the uncanny task of creating those huge lists while NHL teams will just rank the players they like. It's not a surprise that NHL scouts don't give Central Scouting much credit... if they did then it wouldn't justify their own job.

In the end, it's just a matter of opinion. Some will think you're better off betting on a guy like Dumais than banking on a prospect who you think is more versatile. Others don't. Just because Central Scouting is in the second category doesn't make them not "credible". I disagree a fair bit with their list, and my rankings greatly differ from theirs, but in general (say for 80% of the prospects), I can understand what could motivate their opinion.

Opinions....

I honor your opinions, mine differ from yours above.

Once again, Dumais was the best player on the ice.

Game winning goal + another PP snipe

His two way game is really good

13 game point streak (10 x 3 star selections)

17 goals
22 assists (19 primary assists)
39 points
3.00 points per game

+13

53 shots on goal
4.10 shots on goal per game

---

Over a month now, Dumais has been the best
player in the entire CHL, not just 2022 first year draft eligible players
but best player of all players,

He has carried an 3.00 point average for over a month now,
i don't know about you guys buts that's just insane.

Petan and Phillips are good comparisons. The other one that came to mind for me was draft year Jordan Weal. I live in Halifax and watch Dumais live regularly. I share the same concerns many posters do on here regarding his ability to translate to the NHL. There are small players that are good skaters in the NHL, and there are lots of big players with average/bad skating, but I can't think of many small players that are also average/low-end skaters.

I've seen a couple of interview in french with him, he's the most cocky over confident 18 years old i've ever heard talking about himself, i'm not saying it's a bad thing, but maybe his defiant personnality is keeping the teams and the scouts away from him.

Or maybe...he has dealt shit like; no one has ever believed in him because of his height,
so he is trying to prove that everyone is wrong about him and he wants to tell it out loud.

To some, it might sound like cockyness, but it also might sound like he has a need
to explain why he thinks (knows) people are wrong, he is really good at hockey
and he will be really good pro, in the NHL.

He believes in himself, when most do not, that's a good thing, not a bad thing.
