Or its a small sample size that can be quite easily skewed. He shot over 9% last year in the AHL despite playing the same way.
I said "partly", of course bad luck was involved too. He has always been a high volume shooter; I think his career shooting-% will be relatively low because of that (not 3% low tho).

10 game sample. Still 0.5ppg. 19 years old. 3.1% shooting %.

I don't know, I haven't seen the games much like the people who were calling him a bust haven't either. Why did Draisaitl have 2 points in 6 AHL games? This sites evaluation of prospects is just hilarious. Most people stat watch, claim they know stuff, make ridiculous posts, and then disappear when proven wrong. HF boards in a nutshell.
Not always true. People said Yak had issues and Oiler fans said he would work thru them.

I hope he becomes a good player, the league needs more talent. Confidence is also a wonderful thing. If he gets on a roll, it could be all that he needs.

Sorry but he still looks like a bust to me.

I dare someone to convince me that this was the right pick over keller tkahuk mcavoy sergachev.

Ah, because if a player isn't the best player available at his draft spot he is a bust? Stamkos is such a bust, I dare someone to convince me that this was the right pick over EK65

And did they say he had issues after his rookie year? Doubtful, because most were stat watching.

There's literally nothing in JP's game that suggests he has the hockey IQ issues Yak has. In fact its quite the opposite, he reads the play and sees the ice quite well. His biggest issues are becoming stronger and more balanced on his skates and controlling the puck better. Both already look substantially better this year.

Those were 2 seperate statements.

1.He is a bust to me because of his IQ and lack of puck skills. .

2. Probably top 15 in a redraft. ..definitely not top 5.

He will most likely be an add in or a throw in for an upcoming bad trade.

I really don't think a top 15 player in a re-draft is a bust. RNH has fallen too if you do a 2011 re-draft, but I don't consider him a bust because he is still a great player

I respect your standards. But i just happen to have higher ones.

To me.. if a top 5 pick isnt in the top 15 in a redraft then he is a bust. He may become servicable but its still a bust.

RNH is a bust. I have higher expectations for a #1 OA

Jesse's going to make you look bad very soon. I doubt you'll be around to eat your crow though.

He looked good against the Rangers and had a goal, he should be in the NHL imo, especially with the Oilers scoring issues

How did he look like in his second game last night? Couldn’t stay up this time to watch the game unfortunately.

I think the right word would be a dissapointment. Bust for me is someone that doesn't become an NHLer.

Pulju has looked great these past two games. He has looked more like his old self, he is all over the ice utilizing his speed which makes him a very effective forechecker. What's more, he threw some hits during last game. I have no recollection of seeing him throw a single hit before and I have watched his career closely (except AHL). He has been playing with his strengths and it shows. Plenty of shots, 1 goal and 1 almost assist (goal was overturned) in 2 games.

Small sample size, but based on it, it looks like he is in the NHL for good.

I'd say if you end up on the 4th line with very limited ability to move up like someone such as Paajarvi you are a bust. But, it is ridiculous to label any player in their draft +2 a bust.

Didn't see the full game but his puck handling seems a lot better, the puck isn't bouncing off his stick immediatelty, was more physical than last year. I was surprised when he threw a nice hit on the 1st.

Skating& effort levels look good.

Thanks! That was exactly what I was hoping to hear. Hopefully he will manage to stay up for good and start producing points too. Promising at the moment anyway!

So, you're saying that his goal was not actually a goal, and his assist was an "almost assist"?

Uh, his goal can't be contested.

The one taken away from Klefbom/Looch (may have been tipped) because of some phantom goaltender interference on Nuge (his skate blade may have touched Holtby's blade but did nothing to prevent him from stopping the puck) stole an assist from Pulju.

Bottom line is that he's creating offence and playing engaged every shift. Very happy with these 2 games.

MPS, Yak, Draisaitl were all very different prospects. JP is different from all of them IMO.

Draisaitl ooooozed elite hockey sense from junior onwards. You could see he knew where others were on the ice in the WHL, was defensive beast, and his backhand was elite. He's a center being wasted away as a winger.

Yak - great shot, somewhat physical (likes to hit), fast skater, waterbug in the wrong spots. Serious hockey IQ issues because he never improved and always in unpredictable areas when defending.
Only played well with Derek Roy and maybe his rookie season where everyshot seemed to just go in.

MPS - fast straight line skater, allergic to physical contact, muffin of a shot, zero offensive awareness. Expectations were unreasonable. Had fellow Oilers fans once compare him to Foppa where I said his peak is Erik Cole at the very best.

JP as others have mentioned gives me a more skilled Benoit Pouliot vibe (that's not necessarily a bad thing). Big, fast, decent vision/passing, good shot and likes to shoot, seems to understand backchecking and defense at his young age. Struggling horribly with protecting the puck in the NHL. Probably scores 20 goals regularly (BP was injured a lot). Might be a 30 goal scorer if can protect the puck like Draisaitl or heck even Lucic or Nuge.

Thats where we disagree and where my standards are higher.

To me it doesnt mattwr you play or played in the NHL...there are expectations based on ones draft position...

RNH, Yakupov, Brule , Stefan, G Reinhart.... these are all busts to me.

It may be too early to call JP a bust but he is certainly trending the same way as those afformentioned names. Lots of red flag pre draft and lots of holes im his game at thia point.

How is RNH a bust? I think people have unrealistic expectations out of every #1ov. A bust is a player who struggles to find his way in the NHL. A bust isn't a player who just doesn't put up 80+ points a year.
