Boy left his home as 13 year old to play hockey and make life out of it and here i see ppl calling him dumb. All i see is Finnish jealousy.
There are plenty of NHL players that are straight up dumb, I don't know what that has to do with jealousy. Or even how it could be conveyed as jealousy?

That said, I have no clue if he's smart or not. He certainly plays a dumb game on occasion but he'll grow out of that.

Trust me, stupid people can be great athletes. There are a bunch of them

Question is does he have hockey sense?

Interesting post. It's as though you believe there is a rigid umbrella concept of "stupid" and "smart" that governs all intelligence, but then you also immediately mention "hockey sense" which is simply a short way of saying "situational intelligence and awareness during a hockey game". I'm wondering now how you model intelligence exactly? Is it fair to say this is your model: An overall "umbrella" level of "smartness", with different specific situational intelligence's that have a cap based on the level of the umbrella smartness? If not, how do you personally describe intelligence?

My personal model would be the thought that there are many types of intelligence, all of which can be used like a muscle to improve. For instance, I'm pretty decent at math and analytical thinking, but that's only because I practice it regularly. Before I did practice it regularly, I was a book worm, and so I can also be eloquent, at times, but not as eloquent as I was while reading constantly. I speak now more like a scientist than a poet as a result. So my theory would dictate that Puljujarvi is not stupid, just perhaps not as smart in some areas as others, which is true of all people.

I don't know, it's an interesting thing to think about, intelligence. I'm not trying to knock your way of thinking about it, or anything, just trying to make you analyze it for both of our benefits.

I think he is incredibly talented, still think he will pan out. Not sure I see these hockey sense issues when i watch him.

I know that I have been very critical about Jesse and his development for quite awhile. But I have also belived that the biggest problem for him has been so far immaturity and thus easily lack of confidence. He really needs very much to be put into a situation where he is likeliest to succeed. I’m very happy for him starting strong now. Hopefully it will now give him a confidence boost and make him play more consistently than his has been doing for a while now. Very nice if he will start turning his tide!

He's going to get PP time very soon if he keeps firing the puck like he's been doing today. That should give him a nice boost because he looked incredible on the PP at the U20's and U18's.

Had a decent onetimer chance a while ago. Take a lesson from Laine next summer and he starts burying those ;)

And a good rush and a shot on net there.

So when will he play with McDavid, he is one of the few with the speed to match him?

Impressive speedburst when he carry the puck...

Well, that game was quite reassuring considering it was doubted whether he could play in the NHL in any capacity. Responsible defense, good forecheck and got some good chances as well. Didn't bobble the puck at all, as far as I saw. Playing like this should keep him with RNH.

Great game from him at a time when he really needed it. A coach with more than zero brain cells would see fit to put him up with McDavid next game so Draisaitl can run his own line, but the Oilers have TMacT behind the bench.
