So when will he play with McDavid, he is one of the few with the speed to match him?

Impressive speedburst when he carry the puck...
Hopefully soon, he was the best Oiler on the ice tonight aside from maybe RNH. They really need to split up Drai and McDavid, they've staled over the past few games and need a mix up even if its just for a little while. Really Jesse was unlucky to not have another goal today. He got a few one timers off that just missed, and he beat Lundqvist clean five hole, but hit the far side post. If the shot came from even a foot closer towards the centre of the ice that would have been in.

I loved how he played, but I only want him playing with McDavid if RNH also moves up. It's about time we gave RNH the winger he deserves, not keen on separating those two yet.

Give RNH Draisaitl on his RW. Drai hasnt played his best hockey over the past few games, but he'll be a lot better than what RNH has had this season even if he's struggling. Lucic has also looked quite good with Draisaitl in the past.

I feared that he might fumble with puck and not get productive things done in NHL. But it went well in this game, truly it did, I was happy to see it. He wasnt just surviving, he was driving the game too. Good game from him, easily deserved to be in the team tongiht.

I was really impressed by him tonight. Wasn’t honestly expecting him to be even close to as good as he was. He was skating really well and playing pretty smart in my opinion. His shot is so hard that I just wish he could somehow manage to get it clearly more accurate. Maybe some summer training with his buddy Pate Laine?

Well anyway I would just love to see him get more icetime and especially time on the power play and maybe next to McDavid. His chances for success should really be maximized now. I think the results would be a huge benefit for the whole team. Just quit being so damn conservative and careful McLellan.

People have been putting Puljujarvi under a microscope for so long now that it's often forgotten that most of his North American peers are still in the CHL and he's still a teenager eligible for the WJC. He's always been a long-term raw prospect who would need time but people have forgotten that. Glad to see him have such a good game!

Fantastic game.

Didn't have bigger issues with puck handling, carried the puck with confidence and was dangerous, wanted to shoot the puck and just brought energy into the lineup.

No reason to worry. Im sure that he cant play every game that good. But now we know that he can be a great NHLer.

So what's the explanation for his terrible stats in the AHL?

It's too early to say that his play in the NHL is better than while on the farm, but what makes Puljujarvi so tantalizing is exactly what causes him to struggle: he's a complementary winger who has the size, speed and shot to participate in/finish high-end plays, but he needs high-end players to play with. That one-touch pass from RNH, for example, was unlike anything you'll ever see at the AHL level.

Basically this. Also worth noting that he played much better in the u20s than in the u18s in his draft year. Some players need to play with quality linemates for them to really shine, I think Pulju falls into that category. His shooting-% was really low, so being unlucky played a part of it too.

His sh% in the A was 0.03%. Also probably concentrating more on the overall play.

This guy? Dumb you say? No way!

Reminds me of Jokinen for some reason.

The extended highlights and 2nd-star of the game were definitely encouraging. That said, I'd still like to see him try out a shorter, more rigid stick. And the puck battles stick need work, but overall a good start. Let's see how he does tonight.

So what's the explanation for his terrible stats in the AHL?
10 game sample. Still 0.5ppg. 19 years old. 3.1% shooting %.

I don't know, I haven't seen the games much like the people who were calling him a bust haven't either. Why did Draisaitl have 2 points in 6 AHL games? This sites evaluation of prospects is just hilarious. Most people stat watch, claim they know stuff, make ridiculous posts, and then disappear when proven wrong. HF boards in a nutshell.

So what's the explanation for his terrible stats in the AHL?

Simple. I forget if it was TMac or Chia, but they were quoted as saying JP was sent down to specifically work on his game away from the puck. I saw the interview, but cannot rememeber which one said it. His stats meant little.

I think his 3% shooting in the A is partly explainable by the way he plays: he shoots the puck whenever he can, whether he is in dangerous position or not.
