Sorry but he still looks like a bust to me.

I dare someone to convince me that this was the right pick over keller tkahuk mcavoy sergachev.

You must still be upset with the Oilers drafting Michael Henrich at 13th overall in 98 when Datsyuk was still on the board at 171! How could they mess up like that?!

McAvoy and Keller were absolutely NOT going at #4 overall. That's the benefit of hindsight.
If teams had a team machine than sure, your way of thinking would apply.

Pulju was clear and away the #3 prospect, don't forget he was the wjc mvp. He fell to us at pick #4. Had to take him.

Tkachuk would've been nice I guess and I was a huge fan of Sergachyev. But those are options if Pulju was taken @#3 by the BJs. Considering he wasn't us drafting him was absolutely the right move to do. He will become a stud of a player have faith.

How is RNH a bust? I think people have unrealistic expectations out of every #1ov. A bust is a player who struggles to find his way in the NHL. A bust isn't a player who just doesn't put up 80+ points a year.

Yeah by that metric Nathan MacKinnon is bust.

I feel bad for any team that gets a bunch of bust players like Hall, RNH, Mackinnon... s/

yeah not a bust but definitely a disappointment...RNH is even worse...there is some expectation for 1st overall.

before you all point to Bennett, he is a disappointment too.

I think people forget how young MacKinnon is since he's been around forever and talked about since he was 15. He's not the Tavares/Stamkos level prospect people thought he was coming out of junior, but he still only turned 22 a month before the start of this season started and had over 200 NHL points before turning 22. I feel this year he will emerge as a legitimate number 1 C offensively, which he has done to start this year.

RNH has sort of leveled off longer and at an older age than MacKinnon. The thing with RNH is, who from his draft class who was viewed as a top prospect is really out performing him? Huberdeau is probably the only one. Him vs Larsson, Couturier, and Landeskog is probably a draw, and he's way better than Ryan Strome. Past that, Schiefele never was a realistic choice to go 1 (and was viewed as a reach at 8).

He's looked good in his first 2 NHL games this season. Scored a goal in his first game and played with a lot of quickness and a willingness to shoot the puck. In the 2nd game he was screwed out of an assist by a borderline at best goalie interference call and played physical while also not costing the team anything. If he keeps up this level of effort he'll stay with the big club from here on out and the points will come.

Halls a bust now? lmao
In a way, crosby is a bust too. He was advertized next gretzky, the next one, pre draft but havent done what 99 has. So, a bust can be best player in the league! :sarcasm:

Gretzky was also a bust because I'm sure he couldn't play defence or goalie the way he played forward. Soooo one dimensional.

0 points in a 7 goal game so far. Not too good from a top 6 player!

Well he did have the lowest ice time I think of any Oilers forward. Coach just rolled the lines. JP doesnt play on the PK yet. Played on PP2, but they only needed like 10seconds to score.

I think he was pretty good last night. Made some great defensive plays, saved a goal or two. Was monumental in one of RNH's goals but didnt score. I think line 2 was a bit off with the Oilers last night mainly because Lucic was fighting the puck.

Happy what I have seen out of him the last 3 games.

Here goes HF just looking at numbers without context, assuming a 19/20 year old player is a bust in his draft +2 year.

Yeah he hasn't been that impressive yet, but just wait a couple of years when he's more used to the North American rink size and play style.

Certain players make this kind of transition look easy, but you can't imagine how difficult it really is, no matter the talent level.

If in a couple of years he still can't produce, then yes, he's probably heading to bustville.

The thing is he actually has looked impressive in the 3 games this year. Give him back his assist on a weak goalie interference challenge and have his shot that beat Lundqvist clean five hole off the inside of the far post go in and the stat watchers would be silent. I'd honestly question anyones hockey knowledge if they watched those 3 games and thought he didn't look good. He's skating fast and carrying the puck through the neutral zone with ease. Has looked dangerous offensively and great defensively.

Last night he made an amazing defensive play that just re-affirms what I've seen before. Overall he played a safe game and no longer exhibits puck protection weakness that worried me.

Anyone who actually watches the Oilers will tell you he's been great since his return from Bakersfield. He's skating hard, using his body effectively and his puck skills look much better. He's getting in on the forecheck, stripping pucks, getting into shooting positions and shooting when he can, him and RNH seems to be developing some chemistry. Defensively he's always well positioned and last night alone broke up two chances that would of been for sure goals.

While he didn't have any points last night he was instrumental on two goals, the first was Nuge's PP goal where he put himself in a dangerous scoring area and drew 3 defenders to him allowing RNH to sneak in untouched and bury it. Another time he did some excellent work down low breaking up a clearing attempt and not long after the puck was in their net.

Nice to see Puljujärvi starting to use his body more. From what I've seen in these past few games, he has been a real nuisance for the opposing team with his speed and relentless checking which has resulted into countless turnovers.

I think he will be a good one.

I thought he was weak defensively and wouldn't use his body. But after watching the last couple games, that's not the case. This is promising for his career.

Issue's not been really being defensive, though using his body is a nice plus. His issue has been that the puck does not find him.

No points, no fanfare from me.
He could look as good as humanly possible without points, but I guess those will come if he continues the consistent play.
Then again, he's only 19. Only time will tell..
