Like i said the WJC is a small sample size and many feel the need to judge a player based on 5 or so games here. With that being said he did not have a good tourny but that does not mean he will not or can not be an impact player in the nhl

He hasn't been good since his draft year....

He was godawful but the whole team seemed incredibly selfish... like they all want to be the star of the game. Piss poor coaching by Lowry overplaying Virtanen and not getting Blackwood out of there. One of the worst Team Canada's in recent memory.

Virtanen got exposed today for his lack of discipline especially in a crucial game. Vancouver will have a lot on there hands going forward to excavate his bad habits. As much Virtanen has discipline issues he is still a prospect with great tools.

No tool box at all, his tools will translate to a 30-40 pt offensive peak but anything beyond that is hopeless with his brain

Being from Finland I wonder if his dad was gently and quietly fist pumping everytime his son took a stupid penalty?

I'm sure his dad cares more about his son than he does about the Finnish hockey team...

If my son was playing for the US team against Canada, I would 100 % be cheering for the US.

That may be the worst WJC tourney I've ever seen by a Canadian player. He's got the strength, speed and physicality to have an NHL career, but he really does have the hockey mind of a potato. He'll be a 3rd/4th liner IMO.

how long have i been saying that he'd be a bust? hes a prime example of why physical players get overvalued in the draft. if Vancouver prioritized hockey IQ they would have ended up with Nylander, instead they have Virtanen. his upside is being a 4th liner..

the good thing is that you have McCann to make up for that pick, hes a keeper.

What did he do?

I'm at work and reading the blog and it said he took 2 penalties.

He took 2 penalties on the same shift, the second one being a frustrated slash after already knowing he was getting a penalty. Sad thing is, that wasn't even the dumbest thing he did today. He took a penalty earlier in the game when Canada was on the PP and there was a delayed call on the Finns that would have given Canada a 5-on-3 for :15 seconds. There was a loose puck squirting out to the blue line, the Finn defender is going for the puck (which would whistle play down and put Canada on a 5-on-3), and Virtanen (who has already lost his stick) grabs the Finn and drags him down. A mentally challenged turtle has more hockey sense. That completely changed the momentum of the game.
