With the Eichel saga, I was convinced Buffalo dug themselves into a hole that would take a decade to climb out of.

My view has certainly changed this year. And with two of my favourite prospects in the NHL in Jack Quinn and Devon Levi, I'll be rooting for them.

They must have their reasons - perhaps Quinn is still nursing an injury?. Next season he will be in the NHL.

Why are he and Peterka in the AHL and Krebs in the NHL? They are both better than him.

Peterka isn't quite on Quinn's level, so there's at least some hockey-based argument for keeping his development at that level for now. I suspect the real reason neither is up, though, is mostly that keeping Samuelsson, Krebs, and Fitzgerald in the NHL after the trade deadline used most of our available recalls. Understandable to want to save the remaining recall slot in case there's an injury or something, but frustrating.

Quinn is back in the A because he came up and got hurt. He was out long term so they started him back in the A. Peterka was really overwhelmed when he was up earlier this year - he's not on Quinn or Krebs' level. I think you're also more frustrated with Krebs than what I've seen - he's holding his own IMO, just not yet lighting up the scoresheet.

I suspect recall rules has limited the amount of movement since Quinn has gotten back from his injury.

Ah, someone who actually watches games instead of just looking at boxscores. Weird!

MAYBE there's a case to be made for Quinn being "better" than Krebs. There is no case for JJP.

All 3 were in the lineup earlier in the season, and it was VERY clear during those games that Krebs belonged in the NHL and JJP belonged in the AHL. Quinn was coming on but then got injured long-term. We sent him back to the AHL once healed.

In the time since, Krebs has only solidified himself as an NHLer. The points aren't there, but the play is. Yes, he'll make a dumb backhand pass once or twice a game. But the only skater on the Sabres with better vision and passing ability is Dahlin.........and Dahlin is world-class in those aspects. And for every dumb play that Krebs makes per game, he'll make the same number of "wow, this kid might be special" plays.

It's clear to everyone that Quinn needs to be in the NHL, and he will be next season. However, Kevyn Adams has repeatedly said that he wants the kids to experience a playoff run in Rochester. That's why he's still there. And JJP. That's why he "demoted" Samuelsson, Fitzgerald and Krebs on trade deadline day, only to bring them right back up.

My expectation is that we call Quinn up for our last 7 games of the season if Rochester isn't battling tooth and nail for a playoff spot.

I know everything he posted. Quinn would probably still be on the Sabres if he hadn't got hurt. I have seen every Rochester game. I really liked Krebs before this season. Tried to trade for him in my keeper league. Didn't watch many of his games before he got to Rochester this season but he wasn't any better than Quinn or Peterka in Rochester. That may be because he needed time to acclimatize to new linemates. I see Quinn, Peterka and Krebs at around the same level. Peterka did very well in Rochester when Quinn was out. He is a great passer and gets lots of scoring opportunities but doesn't finish often enough. Recall slots and roster spots would explain why they are in the minors. And of course getting Rochester into the playoffs.

I think having young guys stay down in Rochester and push for a playoff run is a smart move. Sabres have learned their lesson on rushing prospects it seems.

Also it is smart to let his contract slide. An extra year of team control.

It's strange to see a player with this type of production manage to be a -24 in 52 professional games. Odd statistic, even if it means very little.

Not odd when you were drafted by Buffalo. Check out those stats on Sabres team the previous 6 years to this one. You will see plus/minus numbers you didn't think are possible in the NHL.
