More like “has a solid shot to be worth his draft position.” For him to be the steal of the draft at 8th overall, he’d pretty much have to end up the best player in the draft.

If we’re gonna label anyone an early “steal of the draft” favourite, I’d say Mercer. But really, need to wait a few years, see if any later picks turn into total studs.

Also, would any of the teams trade the guy they took top 7 for Quinn, today? Maybe NJ/Holtz, but it’s arguable, and I don’t think anyone else would. I think it’s more likely that the Sabres would say yes to Quinn for Lundell or Jarvis.
yes to lundell no to jarvis.

I agree, the steal of the draft is rarely a top 10 pick or heck even a first rounder really.

Another Saber prospect Devon Levi ironically might end up being the "steal of the draft" as he was picked 212th

I would trade Holtz so fast for Quinn it's not even funny. Quinn is 10x the player Holtz is. I don't think there is a single thing that someone could tell me that Holtz does better than Quinn other than having a marginally harder shot and release. I've had Quinn in my top 3 since draft day 2020 and I have seen 0 to move him from that spot. If anything, my opinion of him has only risen. The Sabres saying yes to Lundell or Jarvis would be an absolutely criminal mistake.

It was putrid defense is what it was

Taking nothing away from the great talent Quinn is, but he skates from his own into the slot and took a shot from the hash marks/ top of the circles. Horrific defense
Nobody was claiming it was a goal of the year or anything. The defense actually did pretty much what they should have on a 5 on 3 - the guy back stayed in front of him, Quinn just sniped it past the goalie. Pretty nice shot.

It is the AHL after all, but watching Quinn live- his speed really puts defenders on their toes. This won't be the last time you see putrid defense when Quinn gets in one on one against a defender; the combination of his shot and speed is lethal, and really difficult to defend when he's entering the zone at full speed.

I witnessed a similar play to this one live a few months ago. Shorthanded, blazing speed up the wing, crossed the blue line one on one with a defender, the defender looked like a fart turned to a shart, Quinn crossed it to the middle of the ice, and ripped a wrister past the goalie from just outside the hashmarks. One of the best goals I've seen live in the AHL. Kid's got skills for days.
