I don't know if i've ever seen a better skater in the Q before, his "edges" when he turns are incredible. I've seen Mackinnon, Crosby, Ehlers, etc, and they have great skating, but its mostly speed.

For anyone that hasn't seen him play, he gets the puck along the boards/corner, and turns, skates, turns, skates, over and over. The defender can't stay with him. He either ends up dishing it off, or cutting towards the net for a shot on goal. I know this won't work in the NHL, but its amazing to watch at the Q level.

31 points in 13 games is disappointing

Thats really saying something

Uh ok...

You do realize that's he's in a strong division ? Playing against contenders like Cape Breton and Saint John ?

Bathurst aren't slouches, maybe Halifax is but still...

2.3ppg as a 19 year old is very respectable. He's also on points for 138 points if he plays in 60 games and maintains his pace..

Halifax > Bathurst.

But yeah, he is going to put up some ridiculous numbers if he stays healthy. Will surely miss time for the WJC though.

I dont know if you are serious but it was a compliment no need to be a Grouch

Surprised he's still doing so well this year without a true triggerman like Barbashev. If Moncton trades him to a true contender (like they should) or aquires a better scorer then I think you'll see his totals go up even more.

As someone else said, his edge work is absolutely incredible and some of the best I've ever seen. He doesn't have the greatest top end speed, but no one can seem to touch him along the boards.

I've seen defensmen like him up perfectly and all of a sudden he turns on a dime and makes them look terrible.

He has a heck of a lot of bad habits he needs to fix in the AHL before he'll sniff the NHL though. Attitude, work ethic, shift lengths, and to say he's bad defensively would be the understatement of the year.

He's tied for QMJHL scoring lead, along with Barré-Boulet of Drummondville (97 undrafted), but with 5 less games played. He's going to get over 100 again this year if he stays healthy, even if he misses time for the World Juniors.

Yeah I'm confused as well.

My guess is that Izzy meant something along the lines that people (maybe he is one of them) may have expected even more points from Garland and find his total so far a bit disappointing and but the fact that 31 points in 13 games could be considered disappointing is in fact a compliment to Garland.

Not sure I explained that well enough for people to understand, but it's getting late here.

whats really odd is that 100 points in the QMJHL does not seems to carry much weight

Scoring 100+ points in any good players 19 and 20 year old seasons in any of the 3 leagues doesn't carry much weight.

The OHL has been a higher scoring league than the Q the past couple years

At 18/19 I'd say it does, less at 19 cause usually it's your 4th year, it carries some weight.

Garland has been good in the Q from the start. Problem is his size, if he was taller he's in Arizona. He'll also need to get stronger of course.

Definitely agree at 18. What Garland did last season was very, very impressive. I've seen Garland play a couple games this season and my problem with him is that he still isn't improving the other aspects of his game that will hold him out of the NHL.

He's still focusing solely on putting up big numbers when everyone already knows he has incredible offensive skills. What he should be doing is paying more attention to the rest of his game.

He's still possibly the worst player in the league defensively. He's lazy on the back check which allows him to still take his 2-3min shifts. He's still into showing off and has the tendency to let his bad attitude come out and take stupid penalties. Seems more like the type of guy who just wants to put up big personal numbers over anything else.

Don't see a NHL career in his future.

Another QMJHL player who's stats are eye popping.

36 points in 16 games.

I am going to surmise, the Q is not a league that is too overly concerned with defence.

Regardless, not bad for a 5th rd pick in 2015.

So you're saying there are actually 100+ points players in the CHL?

Every year, in the whole CHL, there are some 100+ points players.

Defense is better than it was before. Now you only have 3-4 players max with 100 points or more. 15-20 years ago you had way more than that.

You got all that from that one post?

Perhaps you should not jump into multiple positions from a single point in one post.

I thought my post was rather clear. It is part of the one you responded to me on another thread on another team's prospect claiming I was comparing 1st and 2nd rd picks(in which I did not), and the one that you had erroneously posted Yan's PPG pace.

The point was Many Players in the Q are scoring at a very high rate at the moment. You can draw your own conclusions on this for whatever prospect you choose that is putting up near 2PPG paces.

I trust you know where I stand on this.
