Never said I wasn't impressed, I just think he's too small to play in the NHL. He gets knocked around and off the puck in junior, nevermind the NHL.

He is obviously the best player on the wildcats IMO. Was player of the game when I went.

there is no such thing as too small to play in the NHL anymore...

this kind of talk is just getting stale and boring.

If Gaudreau can excel at the NHL level, nobody is too small.

Garland is absolutely unbelieveable and has been dominating all year long.

Highlights don't tell the whole story BUT... watch #8 in red especially at the start of the video (this is from last night's playoff game):

I would venture to say that had a team picked him up last year in the 7th round, they would be pumping his tires and saying they've got the steal of the century for sure.

7 assists tonight in 7-3 win. Sets team record.

Was unranked at midterms. Now 86th. Might crack 1st round at this rate.

Not a chance he goes first round. He might crack the second round. He could set records every game, he's still a huge question mark because of his size.

Watched every game of Moncton vs. Halifax series and wasn't really impressed by Garland as much as I expected. He is on the ice for over half the game and does a lot of gliding around and slow puck play. Doesn't seem to ever put his legs to use so no explosive speed to be seen...Has good hands and vision but also loses puck a lot trying to do too much. He tries to do what Drouin did, but doesn't have as much talent. Yeah he won MVP but he's lucky he has Barbashev with him who is in my opinion a much more dangerous threat on the ice. Also Garland looks tiny out there, smaller than even Gaudreau. Not a chance he goes any higher than 3rd or 4th round and I don't see him being effective in the NHL with this type of game and size. Good luck to him though, seems like a decent kid and we will see how far he can go with what he has.

Want the Flames to take a risk on him with one of their 2nds. A top line of Gaudreau-Monahan-Garlund would be the smallest in the league, but I'm fairly certain Monahan would be an 82 goal scorer.

I'm not sure how I feel about taking a shot on him to be honest. He is not a Harley type player right now but a couple years in Stockton might help that. My biggest beef is too many 3 minute long shifts and trying the same moves over and over.

Not invited to the combine and not on the TSN list of over 80 names...

His story is going to be a fascinating one to watch on draft day. I have a hard time believing he goes in the top 90.

I wonder if Boston might take a chance in the 3rd, him being a hometown boy and all. That being said he seems like a guy somebody might take a chance in the 4th round with(probably somebody with a lot of picks)

Interesting enough this article about smaller players was published today.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/blogpost.htm?id=40125

Buffalo Sabres director of amateur scouting Greg Royce said he believes scouts and general managers will select a smaller player if he exhibits good skating ability, good smarts and a big heart.

"You look at Johnson and [Brendan] Gallagher with the Montreal Canadiens; there are a lot of smaller players at the NHL level having great success," Royce said. "If the choice is between a big player who can skate and has skill and a small player that can skate, has skill and is more passionate and determined, you'll take the guy with more passion."

RW Conor Garland - Moncton Wildcats QMJHL

Can someone explain to me why Conor Garland is not ranked by most prognosticators?

Sure, he is small but his skills are lights out with the stats to back them up. Other forwards around his size--Beauvillier, Konecny, Bracco are all ranked in the top 40 or so. Sure, Garland is a year older than the others but he has almost twice the number of points of Konecny. He took the scoring title in the Q by 29 points over his closest competitor.

He is Martin Reway with more grit, more speed, a scoring title and no attitude.

Starting at pick 31 hold you breath for Garland he will go early 2nd. Phenomenal talent and the success of Johnson and Gaudreau can only open the path for him.

FYI there's already a thread on him. I think the main reason he isn't ranked in the top 60 is that he was draft eligible last year...not alot of 2nd time eligible players go in the top 60.

Craig Button has him ranked 43rd on his list.

I think the issue for you is that most prognosticators are focused on the top players going into the first round and not many venture into listing players in the subsequent rounds.
