So stupid to be making long term prognostications about a draft a little over 1.5 years down the road. Y=

Luke Schenn was making an impact in the NHL before Erik Karlsson.......your point on NHL "impact" for guys who are literally just starting to make NHL rosters, like Beauvillier, Barzal, and Aho is beyond moot. None of them have accomplished anything yet, and if you don't think Boeser is skilled enough to land a spot with the Nucks I don't know what to tell you. Not even a VAN fan, just live in the real world

I think he could have made the Canucks, but I'm not sure he'd be an impact player.

And obviously playing in the NHL isn't the only criteria here, but looking good at that level is a bit of a risk mitigation. Guys like Aho who had a great track record coming into the league and have looked excellent as a rookie are less risky than guys who have yet to show the ability to translate to the NHL.

I don't know. There are still some question marks about his ability to translate. He's made improvements in his skating but it's still subpar. There aren't a lot of young NHL players that aren't great skaters.

What are your sources for his "sub-par" skating as you describe it?

Agree. Skating will likely never be a strength for Boeser. He has sort of a choppy stride and below average acceleration. That doesn't mean he can't be a great player but it is something that could hold him back. If skating was a strength for him, I don't think anyone would be questioning his ability to translate.

Corey Perry, John Tavares, Sedins, Henrik Zetterberg, Mark Stone, TJ Oshie, Thomas Vanek

ALL of them aren't fast skaters. ALL of them did well in the NHL.

He has good top end speed, he is shifty and agile. he just needs to work a bit on his acceleration which can improve with a good power skating coach. He can already generate breakaways at the college level.

Here is a quote from Pronman's summer write up on Boeser (who he had at 40 of the 120 drafted prospects he rated). Its behind a paywall so I will only share the quote.

Boeser's main issue is his skating, as he doesn't generate a ton of power in his stride.

From the HockeyProspect.com 2016 Black Book about him

While Boeser isn’t the
swiftest of foot, it doesn’t seem to hold him back from getting to where he needs to be. As his foot speed improves, it will only help his all-around game and allow him even more scoring chances.

I'd say those are decent sources. But its also evident to anyone who has watched him. It can be overcome, but his skating isn't great, and it was fairly noticeable on big ice at last years WJC.

Incredible!

Going back to last season - #Canucks prospect Brock Boeser has points in 28 of his last 32 games. He has 65 points (28-37-65) in that time!

Big UND fan hey? or you caught a lot of Waterloo games prior with the USHL's advanced streaming services?

The only "sub-par" part of Boeser's skating is his first steps.

I seriously have to question anyone that claims to have watched "him a ton", then turns around and says that his skating is an issue. Because really, skating isn't really 1 catagory. Top speed is good, agility is good, first few steps are meh. It's not an issue.

Boeser's skating is similar to Baertschi. He's not the fastest on the ice, and probably isn't gonna burn you with his speed, but makes it up in other categories.

salty eastern conference fans trolling this thread :help: :shakehead :help:

boeser is an absolute stud and i wouldn't be surprised if he steps into the NHL next year and pots 55 points.

You mean most scouting reports from OVER A YEAR AGO.

Give me a break.

The only weak thing about his skating is his first few steps.
The quotes I posted from scouting write-ups are from June of 2016, and August of 2016. They aren't over a year old.

Well this was after his 6 points in 2 games at the start of the year.
Guess he liked his off-season training

Because they both come from the NCAA?

BOeser

BOzak

one had 10+ teams lined up to sign him
the other got passed by 22 teams in the draft (character???)

He's upgraded to rich man's Blake Wheeler if he commits to school and signs with another team like Vesey
