Ok real talk time. Although this kid has gotten better and better as he plays, he didn't have just a random "jump" in talent from his draft to now... He started off in the NCAA last year with a hattrick and was PPG.

So where did the scouts go wrong? How come he was ranked so low at the 2015 draft?
The success of him, Connor and prior to this Gaudreau will definitely change opinions about prospects who come from the USHL but not from the USNDP program. Until recently there hasn't been many high profile guys from that league who were drafted out of it. The biggest names who went in the first round off the top of my head are Okposo and Girgenson's. I also think his skating may of scared teams off.

Also, 2015 was insanely deep, with a bunch of high-end talent coming from the CHL (particularly the OHL). I think he may have just got lost in the shuffle. He wasn't even the biggest oversight, at least he was consistently first round. Look at where Sebastian Aho was drafted, and where he is now (he was considered a massive reach by many early in the 2nd). Looking at the 2015 draft in retrospect, that while I think Boeser is clearly a top 15 prospect in the draft (I don't know where I'd place him off the top of my head, and am not going to try because of the disaster it could turn this thread into), outside of the Bruins picks I can't see many where that I can look at and wonder what the hell that team was thinking. At the moment I would probably rather have him than guys like Lawson Crouse, Thomas Chabot, Colin White, Svechnikov, Meier, etc but I can atleast see where those teams were coming from.

He definitely struggled this weekend against a very good Minnesota - Duluth team. No points and -3 in the 2 games, he seemed to really struggle to find space at ES. It's a concerning trend I've noticed, where in higher pace games his lack of footspeed makes it hard for him to escape checks. UMD was able to pretty easily key in on him - they played him pretty physical and laid a few big hits on him.

Yeah they had a special practice just to work on stopping him didn't they? I'd say he had the bead on him

This is why I'm glad he stayed for another year. It can only help his development to learn how to produce when you're the #1 target of the opposing team.

watched the UMD vs Sioux game and although he was held off the scoresheet, he unloaded a couple heavy shots. Cool to see him play the point on the powerplay like ovi, laine, etc.

I'm more referencing his play at the WJC's as a faster paced level of play where he certainly struggled.

I'm confused then. You clearly used the 2 recent college games as part of your reference to him not doing well in fast-paced games. It's the whole point of why this conversation is happening. I'm not angry, I just don't get it. 1 meh WJC tourney doesn't make a trend (you might have a case after the next wjc)...also, the frozen four is > last weekend...

each to their own I guess, I don't wish for a debate over it...

He's improved his skating since then, and we're closing in on a full years since the WJC. Let's wait and see how his skating holds up this time?

Yea for sure he has made skating improvements. I will say his skating hasn't looked as good as it did during this summer's evaluation camp. You can tell he's been working hard at it though, which is great news for Canucks fans. I'm confident he'll get there.

That's what is being referenced. He discussed his trouble matching up against Minnesota- Duluth which also trended in his past WJC games.

How come it didn't trend in the Frozen four?

Well, his Frozen Four performance doesn't negate his WJC/recent performances. Would I myself describe it as "trending"? Maybe not, but I can see the point in that it has been recurring. That's the point of him staying this year in NDakota. The skill is there but other aspects can be ironed out before leaving.

His lack of production has been concerning, but it's not like he hasn't been getting his chances. He was taking a ton of shots against Duluth and in this past game against the Gophers, he hit two posts and had a penalty shot. If he continues to generate chances like these against the tougher teams, they'll start going in.

We're talking a sample of 2-3 games where his production has been down. Nothing to worry about as of now, he's still over 1.5ppg even with the mini-slump.

Not good enough. Was higher before hes gotta start producing FAST this is getting concerning now we all thought hed get some pts tonight but no nothing at all thats not acceptable

He's going to be a 30 G scorer in NHL. Lethal shot, and more importantly the patience and hands to get it off. Canucks should tank this year and scoop Patrick/Petterson. Boeser plus one of them and Tanev/Juolevi on the backend is something to build around.
