Wow.
So many of these goals just appear to be his old highlights being repeated. It seems like I've seen that same shot over and over again from him.

Very impressive pick Jim i really really like this guy Boeser hes got quiet the shot. Hows his defensive game and fourcheck?

Another one

18 goals in 26 games so far... For reference, Jonathan Toews had 18 goals in 34 games in his draft +1 year.

Unfortunately his four check is pretty bad.

His forecheck is pretty good though.

ZING.

How is his skating looking these days? Would you say it has improved since the start of the season? You seem to see him more than most on these boards.

Also thank you very much for the videos. Everyone really appreciates it.

dang if that's the case, hfboards.com is running out of ammunition against Boeser. Better flock to the virtanen thread quickly.

Top speed is still good and has improved.

Edging has been decent good enough (never seen it as an issue)

Boeser's first step has improved slightly. It's his explosiveness that's the issue. He can't really pull away like a guy like Horvat or Virtanen can probably never will.

He's probably going to be skating as fast as a Vrbata type. Never going to be the fastest but never the slowest.

Of course this can drastically change over the summer. I am not good at judging skating techniques.

But since you asked I'll give my very amateur rundown

Thanks, good analysis.

I think the skating comparison with Vrbata seems to be accurate from my limited viewings of Boeser. Also I agree with your assessment on him likely never becoming a Horvat or Virtanen level skater which is fine, because they are both damn near elite in that regard.

To be fair though, Horvat's skating was never elite, but he improved to where he is today, so Boeser could still develop his skating definitely. It's a teachable skill for sure.

yea that shot is something special.. i made this thread after i saw his release at Hlinka, its a thing of beauty.

Its actually quite ironic that you list Horvat as an example of a guy who he would not be able to skate like, since Horvat had very similar skating issues at the same age. It wasn't until the year he made the NHL/Draft+2 that he developed the skating ability he has today. I think its very much a possibility and he has some of the best facilities available to him within hockey to achieve that.

Everyone knows that Horvat's skating became elite after he was drafted. Obviously rapid improvement like that can happen, but it's not the norm. Its extremely rare for a guy to go from having questionable skating in his draft year to being an elite skater 2 years later.

It's helps when you already have tree trunks for legs.

I remember the Canucks prospect camp after Horvat was drafted. Kid was slow as hell. I clearly remember thinking that he'll never be even average speed. He seemed too 'stocky'. Then after a summer of crazy training he totally changed his skating. He can absolutley fly out there (usually when the pucks on his stick). I have never seen such a drastic change in a players skating...
Boeser now looks faster than Horvat did back then... if Boeser can improve his skating just a bit, he'll be fine. So, i dont think that is too much of a stretch.

In regards to Virtanens skating.. He's in another class. He has such a naturally fluid and power stride. Naturally he's a great skater. He needs a really good coach who understands players and can mould him and teach him...because boy he looks dumb out there.

Not that it changes your point much, but Toews was in his 18-year-old (draft+1) year when he posted 18 goals in 34 games. He accelerated his schooling to play his 17-year-old (draft) year in the NCAA, like Hanifin did last season.

18 goals in 26 games. Regardless, he's in good company.
