RW Brock Boeser - North Dakota, NCAA (2015, 23rd, VAN) II

Hidden gem from the 2015 draft. I had him at #26 OA which I thought was fair at the time. Kind of embarrassed I had him behind a couple of players that look like long shots to make the NHL today. This kid is the real deal. Always had that shot which I loved.

Great pick by the Canucks here.

We all knew his shot was great at a high level. The most impressive aspect for me so far has been his really sharp passing, and decent skating. His issue was always skating and he's shown great improvement there for sure. His passes are crisp, tape to tape cross ice, to the slot, pretty much everywhere. His positioning has also shown improvement. He's findin himself more and more at the right place on the ice to capitalize on bad passes and burn through weak defenders. The goal last night against Calgary showed a little bit of all of it. One of his biggest standout qualities this pre season has been his collective composure in front of net. The first Vegas goal especially when he was alone with the goalie, he ignored the defenders and didn't blast the shot. He placed into the top corner in Boeser esque fashion.

I have VERY high expectations for Boeser this season but can we please not make comments like this til he actually starts doing it in the reg season??? I know last season 4 goals in 9 games was fantastic but please i think this too much and setting ourselves up for some disappointment

Dont get me wrong PD i really hope he blows the league away and gets 50 goals and tbh i see some crazy great potential in him hence my username

Why,you could say the same about Gaudette

Still needs to work on his first few steps

And that alone will make sure he doesn't have as much time as he does now in these exhibition games.

If he fixes his skating then wow.

Shot, vision, IQ are all there.

Yep.
His first couple of steps are going to be the difference between him becoming a good player and a great player.
His hands and smarts are so good that even if his skating stays the same, he's going to put the puck in the back of the net a lot over the coming years.

9 points in 8 games. 14 through 17 games in his career thus far. Incredibly consistent.

He's been on a line with Horvat and Baertschi and it's been fun to watch.

Caught part of Brock's game Saturday night. In retrospect, he is turning out to be steal for the Canucks. I am not surprised, the 2015 draft was deep, and I always thought. Like the 2003 draft, some of the later 1st rd picks may become better than the higher rated picks in that rd. Boeser fits the bill perfectly. I loved his shot and release pre-draft. But he is so much better than just for those 2 things. Nice job by the Canucks here.

I really tempered my expectations of this kid, even when he was destroying the NCAA. I was concerned his shot was the only elite part of his game, but he's just so smart from the dots in- he's going to be unstoppable if he can improve his acceleration like Horvat did.

He's the number 1 offensive player for the Canucks already and it's not really close. The Sedins have quietly taken a back seat this season and Boeser hasn't hesitated to take the wheel.

Boeser doesn't need Horvats skating to be successful in the NHL. He's an opportunistic scorer. He's the kind of guy that can go invisible for 2 periods and score a natural Hatrick in 8minutes. His 3 goals on Saturday were his bread and butter. Didn't need great skating on any goal. He will make a career of doing the same thing.
